Summary
The Senior Director, Member Marketing drives member engagement and growth by communicating the value of U.S. Travel membership and organizational impact. This role leads strategy, development and execution of all member-focused marketing and communications, ensuring priorities resonate with current and prospective members. The Senior Director also leads U.S. Travel's content strategy, overseeing planning, development and distribution of integrated, omnichannel content that advances advocacy, membership, research and event priorities. This includes managing staff through direction, coaching and performance management. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Digital, this leader executes a member-centric, content-forward strategy that increases awareness, deepens engagement and drives action. Responsibilities: Member Marketing
Design and optimize a membership lifecycle marketing strategy that supports members from first contact through renewal, with a focus on growth, engagement, and retention. Collaborate with internal teams to position and promote member resources, programs and initiatives across websites, blogs, newsletters, social media, events, email and other channels. Serve as the marketing lead for member-specific programs, webinars, events – including Summer Summit – and activations, such as the U.S. Travel Hub at select conferences. Develop marketing collateral, including membership renewal materials, onboarding assets and promotional content that supports growth and retention. Responsibilities: Member Communications
Develop and manage the strategy for the end-to-end member communications experience, ensuring members receive the right messages, at the right time, in the right channels throughout their relationship with U.S. Travel. Create clear, relevant communications for member stakeholder groups that reflect their needs and priorities at each stage in the membership lifecycle. Identify and deliver opportunities to communicate the impact of U.S. Travel’s advocacy, research, events and programs in ways that reinforce membership value. Provide strategic counsel and craft tailored messaging for U.S. Travel member segments and communities. Supervise the SmartBrief newsletter relationship and audience development strategy in partnership with the Communications team. Responsibilities: Content Strategy
Lead U.S. Travel’s integrated content strategy across owned, shared and paid channels to advance advocacy, membership, brand and event priorities. Ensure brand consistency and message alignment across all channels and touchpoints. Oversee the organizational editorial calendar to ensure aligned messaging, consistent cadence and timely amplification of major initiatives. Use analytics and insights to refine messaging, improve performance and strengthen audience engagement. Experiment with and champion new content formats, storytelling approaches, and emerging digital platforms to expand reach and engagement. Provide strategic oversight and quality control for all content produced by the Manager, Content Marketing and the Manager, Member Marketing, and relevant contractor and vendor relationships. The Senior Director, Marketing and Communications supervises managers, contractors, and vendors within the Marketing and Digital department. Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or a related field. Minimum of 12 years relevant experience in communications, content or marketing roles; and minimum of 5 years people management experience. Deep trade association membership knowledge and experience. Demonstrated experience leading content strategy and managing direct reports. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CRM, CMS, marketing automation and analytics tools, preferred Other:
Position based in Washington, DC. U.S. Travel staff work in the office Tuesday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Mondays and Fridays. Moderate travel (up to five times per year) required. Other duties may be assigned. Salary:130-150K with bonus potential.
