There are two core functions of the Exercise Specialist. Exercise Instruction and Patient Care Coordination. The first entails the implementation and supervision of prescribed therapeutic programs, and the second is the coordination of patient care which covers all the needed support tasks that ensure patients are moving smoothly through each session and there is good communication between the front office and the clinical staff regarding the patient’s care. It is the combination of these two roles that facilitate the smooth routing and treatment of patients, and maintain a clean, organized, and functional facility.

Qualifications

High School Diploma, or working towards a High School Diploma, required.

The physical demands required of this position involve extensive standing, walking, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Communicate daily with clinicians regarding all patient exercise program progressions/modifications and performance tolerance.

Deliver personalized exercise programs based on patients’ specific conditions, rehabilitation plans, and therapeutic goals, ensuring optimal form and appropriate levels of exertion.

Demonstrate, instruct, and correct patients on proper exercise techniques, equipment usage, and safety procedures to ensure effectiveness and prevent injury.

Monitor and supervise patients during exercise sessions, providing guidance and feedback to ensure proper execution and adherence to the prescribed program.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patients’ progress, including exercise parameters, modifications, and any observed changes or concerns.

Communicate regularly with supervising Physical Therapists to discuss patients’ progress, program adjustments, and address any modifications needed.

Educate patients and caregivers on exercise techniques, home exercise programs, and strategies for maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.

Ensure a safe and clean exercise environment by properly maintaining and sanitizing equipment and adhering to infection control protocols.

Review the current day’s schedule and prepare for patient treatment.

Escort patients from the waiting area to the treatment area, gathering required information to be shared with the clinician.

Assist in the supervision of treatment modalities and exercise progress as needed.

Review and correct facility cleanliness as needed based on the cleaning log from the previous day.

Complete assigned cleaning duties and document on cleaning log.

Inspect equipment and make note of any requiring repair.

Complete chart preparation for the following day’s schedule as outlined in the quality assurance program.
