Job Description Employment Specialist Under the direction of the Director of Adult Services, the Employment Specialist will be responsible for determining and addressing employment and personal needs of individuals using assessment, counseling, and other available resources to enhance growth and optimal performance. The Employment Specialist will support participants in their educational attainments, introduce them to post-secondary or training options, and encourage their career development. The Employment Specialist will assist participants in finding and retaining employment, which will require soliciting and maintaining healthy relationships and opportunities with local employers.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, social work or other appropriate field.

Three (3) years of work experience in a human services field, education, or career/employment counseling or related field

Demonstrated ability to perform job duties within the context of complex regulations and definitions and to complete extensive technical documentation

Willingness to comply with the established company performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service orientation, embracing a team player approach, and maintaining a professional demeanor

Must have reliable, independent transportation

Duties and Responsibilities

Counsel participants in academic, vocational, employment and personal issues. Mediate, problem-solve and coordinate individual services for clients to help them overcome employment barriers

Provide assessment by way of program assessment tools, to establish immediate objectives and long-term goals and to determine career interests and job skills

Formulate individual employment development plan for each program participant, using information gathered through formal assessments and in-depth interviews

Coordinate placement and on the job training opportunities

Instruct participants in job seeking, application procedures, resume writing, interview preparation, job retention skills, and attitudes

Determine and provide supportive services based on individual needs and program budget

Maintain effective case management by submitting timely reports, progress notes, updates, job orders and all other necessary paperwork

Ensure every consumer has a portfolio with pertinent materials for employment. This includes, but is not limited to, personal contact sheet, updated resume, cover letter, references, and certifications/ transcripts.

Conduct regular one-on-one counseling sessions with participants to review goals, address problems, and ensure progress is being made

Establish partnerships with employers to identify present and future requirements, thus preparing participants for integration into the labor market

Perform post placement follow up in accordance with company policy

Monitor participants performance on the job and counsel participants when job performance is not satisfactory

Develop and maintain relationships with employers, coordinate and monitor work-based training sites

Assist in the development of program goals and procedures

Assist instructors in the preparation and collection of repots and documents as requested

Become familiar with complex regulations and provide services within this framework

Skills and Competencies

Ability to work independently, with considerable self-direction, and as a contributing member of a team

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds

Ability to work with and be sensitive to a diverse cultural, ethnic and racial population

Must be highly organized, flexible and able to work well with others.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer application

Physical and Mental

School and job assignment travel required.

Regularly required to sit, prolonged standing, walk, talk, hear; operate a computer and other office equipment.

Work in a classroom environment engaging with multiple personality types in conjunction with cultural differences and learning styles.

Work with a variety of populations, including at-risk youth and adults, and individuals with disabilities.

Be Open to Off-Topic Conversations at proper times for discussion and building a rapport with students (ex. Politics, Current Events, Life)
