GENERAL DUTIES Customer Service Continuously displays a positive attitude that contributes to improving patient satisfaction results. Applies customer service skills consistent with LCMC’s Customer Service programs. Utilizes the service recovery process to address customers’ concerns or complaints. Treats all customers with dignity, respect, courtesy and compassion. Recognizes customer needs and begins to solve problems as soon as they are apparent. Interacts with patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional and courteous environment. Displays behaviors that focus on the customer by doing what is appropriate the first time.

Financial Stability Advises supervisor of current or anticipated problems. Effectively uses time and resources to accomplish duties. Self‑starter who willingly puts forth effort and performs tasks with minimal supervision. Resolves conflicting matters and schedules with peers and staff. Accepts assignments and completes them in a timely fashion. Uses time and attendance system and adheres to related policies. Remains aware of possible compliance issues, specifically concerning fraud and abuse, and reports these immediately.

Patient Throughput Keeps patients informed and provides periodic updates as appropriate. Within the scope of position, positively contributes to the organizational goal of patient throughput.

Performance Improvement Actively promotes and supports LCMC’s performance improvement initiatives, participates in ongoing education and cultural change initiatives. Is receptive to differing ideas and embraces change. Ensures verbal and written communications are clear, concise and accurate; uses positive non‑verbal communication. Demonstrates compliance with all state and federal regulatory and accrediting agencies (patient safety, infection control, HIPAA, etc.). Adheres to CHNOLA’s policies, the Code of Conduct, and all laws and regulations. Performs duties ethically, applies job knowledge to improve work processes, documents appropriately, and works cooperatively with teams.

Patient Care Prepares patients for office visits by collecting vital signs, pain rating, allergies and reason for visit prior to being seen by a physician. Assesses each patient for abuse, fall risk, functional assessment, and advance directives. Records relevant data in the medical record. Obtains patient tests before or after seeing the physician. Discusses plan of care with the physician and administers treatments as directed. Under the direction of a registered nurse, administers prescribed medications or vaccines. Considers patient growth and development across all ages and cleans and reorganizes the exam room after the visit.

Communicates with Patients, Pharmacies, Hospitals, and Other Medical Personnel Communicates information between patients and physicians regarding lab/test results, medications and appointments. Coordinates with pharmacies regarding medication refills and new prescriptions. Records all communication in the patient record. Sorts and distributes correspondence, test results and scans in the medical record after physician review and sign‑off, and completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Prepares Patient and Room for Office Procedures Provides privacy and instruction to patients pre‑ and post‑procedure. Obtains specimen, completes appropriate paperwork, and delivers specimens to the designated location. Applies supportive devices or bandages as ordered and documents information in the patient record. Submits charges appropriately.

Safety & Infection Control Standards Stocks treatment rooms, keeps supplies organized, and monitors supplies to ensure adequate inventory. Monitors equipment and surgical instruments, packages and sends instruments to central sterilization as needed, and inspects equipment to ensure proper operation, reporting repairs promptly. Updates recommendations and checks quality assurance logs and refrigerator logs daily.

Clerical Clinic Support Participates in and prepares scheduled clinic activities by gathering appropriate clinical documentation for review by the medical provider. Demonstrates knowledge of all equipment (computers, printers, scanners, fax machines). Obtains out‑of‑state medical records when needed, scans outside correspondence into the electronic medical record, and answers the telephone, routing calls promptly.

Additional Duties Accepts and performs other assigned duties essential to the efficient operation of the clinic and/or Division of Ambulatory Services. Performs specialty‑specific testing and/or minor procedures under direct supervision of a physician or registered nurse. Modifies testing procedures as needed, screens initial patients, monitors vital signs and symptoms, and recognizes when immediate physician attention is required.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent or 2 years of appropriate work experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

American Association of Medical Assistants - Certified Medical Assistant (or National Healthcareer Association - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant)

Certified Medical Assistant - NPCE (or equivalent)

American Heart Association - Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (or equivalent)

Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Clinical skills: vital signs, documentation, specimen labeling and transport, medication administration, computer skills.

Communication and Guest Relations Skills.
