LOCATION DETAILS Memphis, Tennessee
TRAVEL REQUIREMENT Event travel and attendance at staff meetings & trainings is required. Event travel will include overnight stays for events.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT The Marketing Generalist will assist with various marketing projects including planning, marketing and execution, website monitoring, and special marketing projects. Our ideal candidate is a motivated, self-starter with cross‑functional communication and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Email Communications: Create and send a high volume of promotional and transactional customer communications via email and BAND for Varsity Spirit campaign brands including UCA, UDA, NCA, NDA, USA, and UCE.
Content Creation and Publishing for NCA & NDA: Write, edit, update and publish marketing content for digital and print platforms, including email, brochures, web, social and direct mail, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and brand voice consistency.
Social Media Engagement for NCA & NDA: Monitor brand social channels daily, actively respond to comments, direct messages and tagged content when appropriate. Escalate customer service concerns or brand opportunities to the appropriate team to maintain strong community relationships.
Manage Brand Ambassadors and Content Crew for NCA & NDA: Lead, schedule, and guide part‑time content creators (Content Crew) for your assigned brand(s), ensuring they are properly briefed, aligned with brand guidelines, and equipped to capture compelling, on‑brand content during events.
Performance Tracking and Reporting: Assist with compiling marketing metrics, such as email open rates, social engagement, and content reach, to help the team evaluate campaign performance and optimize future initiatives.
Marketing Research and Insights: Conduct audience, industry, and competitor research to inform content strategies and campaign planning. Stay up‑to‑date on youth trends, cultural moments, and digital innovations that can influence engagement.
Cross‑Team Collaboration: Partner closely with creative, digital, and event teams to contribute to brainstorming sessions, share feedback from the field, and support high‑priority projects in areas such as branding, communications, and product marketing.
QUALIFICATIONS
Foundational Marketing Knowledge: Understanding of integrated marketing principles and how content, social, and events support brand strategy.
Team Coordination: Ability to communicate effectively with part‑time contributors (e.g., Content Crew) to ensure high‑quality, on‑brand deliverables.
Strong Communication Skills: Clear and engaging writing with attention to grammar, tone, and audience relevance.
Social Media Proficiency: Confident navigating and posting across major platforms (Instagram, TikTok) with awareness of engagement best practices.
Event Readiness: Comfortable working on‑site at high‑energy events, capturing content, and supporting marketing activations.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret marketing data and performance metrics to inform future efforts.
Organized & Detail‑Oriented: Strong time management with the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.
Adaptable & Collaborative: Flexible, team‑first mindset with a proactive attitude toward shifting priorities and new challenges.
Excellent project management skills and the ability to coordinate and execute multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
Team player with cross‑functional communication skills – this person will interact with multiple facets of the organization and drive results through collaboration.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in marketing (traditional or digital) or related fields or equivalent work experience.
Entry level to 3 years of experience in marketing.
NCA or NDA campaign staff experience is desired but not essential.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This job operates in a professional office environment. Largely a sedentary role with some filing requiring the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Ability to sit or stand for long periods through meetings and while operating office equipment, PC’s, laptop, telephone will be required. During events the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time (5 hours plus) is required. The ability to communicate with customers and colleagues using the following but not limited to radio, walkie talkie, text message and email is required. The ability to lift, bend, push, pull and manipulate equipment that is a minimum of 30 lbs. is required.
