Responsibilities Responsible for designing, building, installing, and repairing structures, fixtures, furniture, and other items using different types of materials including wood and steel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Follow blueprints, building plans or instructions from Supervisors
Install structures and fixtures, such as doors, windows and molding
Measure, cut, or shape wood, plastic, fiberglass, drywall, and spaces for installation accurately
Construct building frameworks, including wall studs, floor joists, and doorframes. Install partitions, windows, etc.
Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures
Estimate height, width, length, and other proportions
Orders building materials as needed
Utilize chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures
Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives
Work on top of stilts, ladders, and the top beams of buildings
Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure
Install cabinets and molding
Create structures for pouring concrete
Replace panes of glass, ceiling tiles, and doors
Move and install machinery
Uses skills in other related trades such as plumbing, roofing, bricklaying, painting, tiling, plastering, etc.
Uses power tools and other tools to cut and shape wood, metal, and other materials
Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for the Position
Communication Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situation.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal direction.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage and maintain security of confidential data and information.
Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment.
Cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs and way of life.
Supervision Exercised This position does not carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Education/Experience Requirements Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or graduation equivalent diploma (GED) and 3 years of experience in home construction; work experience will be considered in lieu of education.
Preferred Qualifications:
Carpentry diploma, certificate or associate degree and previous work-related experience is preferred.
Native Preference is Observed KTTT recognizes preference for KTTT tribal members and qualified Native American tribal members including preferential treatment in recruitment, hiring, promotions, layoffs and reductions in force so long as they meet minimum job qualifications.
Special Certifications Required
Must have a valid Texas State Driver’s license and must be insurable.
Must adhere to Personnel Policies and Alcohol Policies.
Physical Activities
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
The employee must occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person or using telecommunications equipment.
The employee must have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools and machinery.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works in outside weather conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dirt, dust, smoke, toxic materials, air contaminants, noise, humidity, temperature extremes and working at heights.
The work environment can occasionally be stressful.
Background Check Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a fingerprint based criminal history search.
