Tool & Die Specialist/Apprentice

The role of Tool & Die Specialist/Apprentice involves learning the intricacies of mold maintenance. The apprentice will disassemble and clean aluminum tool die casts, often using eye bolts, scrub pads, and scrapers. The candidate will be introduced to the process of analyzing and repairing molds, ensuring they are correctly assembled and function properly. Training includes the use of various tools and equipment, with an emphasis on hands-on learning. Responsibilities Learn and understand the construction and maintenance of molds. Disassemble and clean aluminum tool die casts using appropriate tools. Perform minor repairs and ensure molds are assembled correctly. Use eye bolts to lift and position molds for cleaning. Operate a solvent tank and sand blaster for thorough cleaning. Polish mold cavities with stones to restore their appearance. Surface grind parts using a grinder. Work collaboratively in a team with an experienced colleague. Essential Skills Proficiency in using hand and power tools. Strong mechanical aptitude. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Experience with micrometers. Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Mathematical skills for precise measurements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to analyze and inspect tool and die components. Willingness to learn and adapt new skills in tooling. Work Environment The work environment is a small tool shop located in a rural setting, with a close-knit team of around 30 employees. Safety is a priority, with a dress code requiring safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and long pants. The facility operates primarily during the first shift from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with flexible start times. Saturday work is encouraged for better hiring prospects. The team culture is laid-back yet focused on skill development, and new employees will receive one-on-one training to ensure a safe and effective work experience. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Beloit, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
