About The Role AVP Solutions, a Merchant Service Provider in Canoga Park, CA, is seeking an organized, energetic Underwriting professional to join our in-person team. This full-time position operates M–F, 7:00am–4:00pm, and pays $28–$30 per hour. You’ll play a key role evaluating merchant applications for payment processing, balancing risk mitigation with excellent merchant and sales support.
What You’ll Do As an Underwriter on our team you will review merchant applications, analyze financial and compliance data, and make clear, defensible decisions about account status. You’ll work closely with sponsoring banks and sales teams to ensure accurate underwriting outcomes for both card-present and card-not-present merchants.
Evaluate merchant applications for payment processing services and determine approval, pending, or decline status based on financial, compliance, and fraud risk. Interpret credit bureau reports, bank statements, and financial statements to assess liquidity and overall financial strength. Review merchant websites and documentation to verify Terms & Conditions, refund policies, and the true nature of the business. Apply payment industry merchant guidelines and identify high-risk business types and scenarios requiring escalation. Prepare clear approval, pending, or decline updates and communicate account status to inside and outside sales and sponsoring banks. Ensure merchant files are complete and ready for submittal to sponsoring banks, maintaining accurate records for audit and compliance. Who You Are
You bring an analytical mindset, strong attention to detail, and at least two years of hands-on underwriting experience in the payments space. You know how to balance risk management with customer service and make sound underwriting decisions that protect the business while supporting revenue goals.
Minimum 2 years’ experience evaluating merchant applications for payment processing services. Proven ability to read and interpret credit bureau reports, bank and financial statements. Familiarity with Visa and MasterCard rules, payment industry merchant guidelines, and high-risk categories. Experience reviewing merchant websites for compliance and verifying true business activity. Comfortable assessing both card-present and card-not-present merchants and identifying fraud indicators. Strong communicator with experience liaising with sponsoring banks, inside sales, and outside sales teams. Risk management or customer service background is highly preferred.
