Save Job

Overview Walczak Design + Build is a growing residential design‑build firm seeking a Senior Interior Architectural Designer to join our in‑house design team in Ipswich, MA. This is not a concept‑only or “pretty pictures” role. We’re looking for a technically fluent interior designer who enjoys drafting, space planning, and cabinetry design — and who is energized by seeing their work move from drawings to real, finished spaces. You’ll collaborate closely with our project development and construction teams, contribute to build‑ready documentation, and support client presentations and decision‑making throughout the design process. The right candidate is detail‑oriented, confident in AutoCAD, comfortable engaging with job sites and construction teams, and excited to grow their responsibility within a collaborative design‑build environment. If you enjoy working at the intersection of interior architecture, execution, and craftsmanship — and want to be part of a team that values clarity, accountability, and thoughtful design — we’d love to meet you.

Responsibilities

Develop interior layouts and space plans for residential renovations, additions, and full‑home remodels, with a strong understanding of scale, circulation, and constructability

Produce clear, build‑ready interior architectural drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details, to support accurate pricing and construction

Draft custom cabinetry layouts and elevations in coordination with internal teams and trade partners

Translate client goals and preferences into thoughtful design solutions that balance aesthetics, function, and execution

Support the development of finish palettes, material selections, and design documentation aligned with approved project direction

Participate in client meetings and presentations, including layout reviews and finish discussions, with support from senior team members as needed

Collaborate closely with Project Developers, Project Managers, and the construction team to ensure designs are coordinated and practical

Participate in job site visits and field meetings to support design intent and respond to construction questions

Revise drawings and documentation based on client feedback, team coordination, and field conditions

Maintain organized, accurate design documentation and support decision tracking throughout the project lifecycle

Contribute to shared design standards, documentation practices, and studio workflows as the team continues to grow

Nice to Have (but not required)

Familiarity with cabinet fabrication or millwork coordination

Experience working directly with builders, project managers, or trade partners

Qualifications

4–7 years of experience in residential interior design or interior architectural design, preferably within a design‑build or construction‑adjacent firm working on high‑end remodels

Strong drafting proficiency with the ability to independently produce interior architectural drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details (AutoCAD preferred)

Demonstrated experience with space planning and interior layout development for residential renovations and remodels

Experience designing and drafting custom cabinetry layouts and elevations

Working knowledge of residential construction methods and sequencing

Comfort collaborating closely with construction teams and participating in job site visits

Experience participating in client meetings and design presentations, with the ability to communicate design intent clearly and professionally

High attention to detail, organization, and follow‑through

Ability to take direction, incorporate feedback, and revise drawings efficiently

Interest in professional growth and increased responsibility within a collaborative design‑build environment

Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related field preferred (relevant experience may supersede formal education)

A portfolio of recent work must be submitted

Compensation $80,000 – $95,000 per year
