ASRC Federal AFSS is seeking a

Technical Writer

to support a NASA contract in

Greenbelt, MD.

Job Description:

Provide Technical writing to the Software Engineering Division in the areas of New Technology Reporting (NTR) Software Usage Agreement (SUA) tracking, technical

Responsibilities:

Editing

Review submitted documents and provide technical editing services prior to their release for formal review. It is understood that the workload in this area will vary throughout the year depending on the backlog of submitted documents.

The objective is to make the output of CCSDS working groups look like publications of an international standards organization.

The Technical Editor assures the book is in compliance with CCSDS format and style requirements. Elements of the book that are not in compliance with CCSDS format and style requirements must be brought into compliance before the book can go to review.

Agency Review Support

The contractor shall establish review schedules, initiate international reviews by distributing review announcements to the CCSDS reviewer categories, and release all review materials, including review documents, Review Item Disposition (RID) initiation forms, and contact information for CCSDS, NASA, and NASA Center review coordinators. Release is by distribution via electronic media from the CCSDS Web site.

When compliance with the Publications Manual exists, the Technical Editor

prepares the PDF file to be used for the review;

prepares forwarding and RID initiation forms;

initiates approval polling to authorize review;

initiates formal CCSDS Agency review.

Interface with Secretariat

The contractor shall work closely with other Secretariat support staff to assure that the technical content of the CCSDS Web site is current and complete.

Status Reporting for CCSDS Documents

The contractor shall track and report monthly on the progress/status of CCSDS documents that have been delivered to the Secretariat for processing or are maintained by the Secretariat.

Meetings

The contractor shall attend two CCSDS Technical Plenary meetings per year, one domestic and one international, each normally lasting 5 working days as necessary.

The contractor shall attend CCSDS management meetings as requested either in-person or via telecon as appropriate. This includes.

bi-weekly telecons of the NASA Data Standards Steering Group (NDSSC)

bi-annual telecons or meetings of the NASA Data Standards Working Group (NDSWG).

Training

The contractor shall, at every CCSDS Technical Plenary meeting, conduct a training course on CCSDS processes and methods for developing CCSDS standards.

The contractor shall support the training of supplemental team member(s) in the area of technical editing and lifecycle document management. Note that the additional support may or may not be added under this task or contractor.

Editing Support

The contractor shall provide document-development support to CCSDS members on an as-needed basis.

Polling

The contractor shall create and initiate polls for CESG and CMC approval to release CCSDS documents for international review or publication; oversee resolution of any conditions for approval contained in the poll results.

Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Extensive experience in writing and updating technical documentation.

Familiarity with CCSDS and ISO standards publishing requirements.

Proficient with NASA processes and space system architectures.

Ability to work with international partners and agencies.

Ability to interact with engineers to understand and translate technical information into standard documents.

Strong knowledge of Office 365 suite (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Outstanding proactive customer service with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate customer needs by recognizing areas of opportunity and quickly providing solutions.

Individuals must meet government NAC and citizenship/permanent residency requirements for access to NASA GSFC. Extensive background investigation will be performed as a requirement of the job.

Some travel may be required.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of related professional experience or 8+ years of related professional experience in lieu of degree.
