About this opportunity We’re looking for a strategic, hands‑on creative leader to join our team as an Associate Art Director. In this role, you’ll concept, develop, and execute packaging and design projects for Ross and dd's across multiple product lines. You’ll collaborate closely with the Art Director, cross‑functional partners, and external talent to deliver work that aligns with our customer strategy while pushing creative boundaries. You’ll lead one to two direct reports and manage designers on projects ranging from seasonal and private‑label packaging to graphic development and special initiatives.
Base salary range: $120,000 – $140,000. The range is dependent on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. Other rewards vary by position and location.
What you will do
Collaborate with Art Director to develop seasonal and private‑label packaging concepts, balancing hands‑on design and high‑level art direction.
Deliver creative solutions across product categories (e.g., Pet, Textiles, Stationery, Frame Art).
Lead creative briefings and ensure alignment on deliverables.
Research market trends, presenting insights to inspire future creative projects.
Integrate sustainable design practices into packaging development, including material choice and production methods, aligned with Ross’s sustainability goals.
Oversee projects from concept to completion, including mood boards, presentations, and final asset production.
Ensure adherence to established processes, identifying areas for improvement.
Review print proofs and samples as needed to ensure design integrity.
Build and maintain a diverse network of freelancers/agencies to support evolving needs.
Mentor and guide team members, fostering collaboration and creativity.
Partner with Project Management and Merchants to align on milestones and ensure timely execution.
Build and maintain strong cross‑functional relationships across the internal team and stakeholders; partner with Packaging Director on seasonal and private‑label launches to ensure consistent, cohesive execution.
What you need to be successful
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
10+ years of design experience, including 3+ years managing packaging projects (retail/consumer goods preferred).
Strong portfolio showcasing a range of innovative packaging and private‑label work.
Proven leadership and managerial skills.
Expertise in print production, materials, die lines, and finishing.
Passion for sustainability and forward‑thinking packaging solutions.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with 3D rendering software (PacDora, Solidworks) a plus.
