Marketing/Communications Specialist II

Overview
A Marketing/Communications Specialist II is a journey-level, professional classification responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing marketing, public relations, and/or education programs for an assigned division or subdivision within the Transportation Department. The role serves as an information resource to citizens, contractors, architects, developers, business owners, news media, and community groups regarding an assigned area.
Responsibilities
Develop and produce marketing materials, press releases, and advertising.
Meet with stakeholders to market or sell City programs and services.
Write articles for publication and perform graphic design work.
Plan, develop, and implement public relations information for employees, citizens, and the general public.
Educate the public about program area issues and develop public education programs and materials for diverse audiences.
Attend neighborhood meetings, community events, school groups, church groups, and other civic gatherings.
Maintain the division website, including writing and designing pages, keeping content up-to-date, interesting, and interactive, and ensuring compliance with City specifications and design standards.
Exercise discretion and courtesy in public interactions, including handling potentially confrontational meetings.
May have lead responsibilities for a project or team (by assignment) and supervise clerical or paraprofessional staff.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a closely related field.
Considerable (3-5 years) full‑time experience involving marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field.
For the Hispanic Outreach Assignment, successful completion of written and verbal bilingual (English/Spanish) testing prior to hire.
Other Requirements Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver’s License by hire or promotion date.
