We are a controlled environment agriculture (CEA) startup that leverages plant science, machine learning, and robotics to economically and sustainably grow vegetables in greenhouses.
Description The Opportunity In a world increasingly impacted by climate change, pollution, and population growth, conventional vegetable production is unsustainable. Greenhouse hydroponics uses up to 90% less water, increases yields, reduces food waste, uses fewer pesticides, eliminates fertilizer runoff, and enables local production. Still, greenhouse producers remain a niche due to high capital and labor costs and operational complexity.
Hippo Harvest has broken through this barrier by developing the first vertically integrated physical AI platform for growing leafy greens that are cost-competitive with conventional field production. Hippo’s products deliver longer shelf life, better flavor, and more reliable supply.
We're looking for an experienced Sales Manager who can independently manage our existing accounts, while partnering with the internal team as we grow our business. You’ll own our retail and wholesale relationships, build the sales infrastructure we need to scale, and serve as the customer’s voice in critical business decisions. This role reports to the VP of Growth and works closely with our CEO, Operations, and Finance teams.
You Will:
Manage day-to-day relationships with retail and wholesale partners
Drive business growth with existing customers through strategic account planning and cross-functional partnerships
Partner with cross-functional team to build fit-for-purpose sales planning, forecasting, and revenue management processes
Improve sales systems and workflows to support our next stage of growth
Explore automation opportunities to increase efficiency
Dotted line relationship to our Marketing & Sales Coordinator for day-to-day sales planning and operations
Partner with the CEO and VP of Growth on customer acquisition strategy
Represent the customer perspective in leadership discussions on product innovation, pricing, and go-to-market strategy
You Have
5+ years in sales roles within CPG, fresh produce, or food/beverage retail
Excellent communication, sales, and negotiation skills.
Proven track record managing retail accounts (natural/specialty retail experience preferred)
Experience with both customer-facing account management AND sales operations/planning
Strong leadership skills and self-direction with a history of growing top line sales.
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
Strong critical thinking, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills to assess account profitability with the support of the Hippo Finance team
Demonstrated ability to build or improve sales processes and systems
Great if You Have
Experience in the fresh produce or organic food space
Familiarity with syndicated retail data platforms (SPINS, IRI, Nielsen)
Experience with CRM platforms (Salesforce, HubSpot) and interest in leveraging AI/automation to streamline sales workflows
