Job Summary As a Supervisory Sales Associate you will be the face of our company to both the associates and our customers. You will highlight our brand and image while contributing to building our reputation as a company that values its customers and their opinions. You will be directly responsible for assisting customers and helping them recognize the need for our products and services. You will also be a team leader to the associates ensuring the work environment is positive and productive.

Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service

Proactively engage and make a connection with customers

Ask questions and listen to customer needs

Direct customers to merchandise, informing them about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, STAR card

Provide premier customer service

Cooperate and build positive inclusive and respectful relationships; take accountability for your own actions and outcomes

Organization

Maintain store appearance

Sales

Cross‑sell products and know layout of the store

Make suggestions to customers on latest trends and current promotions based on customer’s individual needs

Upsell products

Learn product features, keep up with the latest trends, leveraging company tools and technology to confidently provide the customer with product knowledge specs

Use a point‑of‑sale system to process cash, exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, debit cards, cash handling, including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customer

Complete various forms of paperwork, reports and reconciliation inventory

Be the keeper of merchandise; complete all inventory processes and ensure merchandise is properly checked in and accurately ticketed; may participate in periodic inventories

Responsible for security of cash, fixed assets and merchandise inventory

Provide direction on assignments including prioritizing projects/tasks, managing merchandise and inventory

Dependability

Adhere to assigned work schedule and complete work assignments accurately and completely

Supervisory Requirements

Provide effective leadership, demonstrate ability to direct, train and motivate associates, set a positive example

Provide coaching and feedback timely and professionally; provide direction on work assignments and training to sales associates

Provide input to Department Manager on associate performance; may open/close locations

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience

Moderate level product knowledge of merchandise

Provide training documentation to sales associates on product features

1‑2 years retail or relevant work experience required; 1 year of lead or supervisory experience preferred

Communication Skills

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to read, write and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals

Effectively communicate with customers, peers and management

Communicate on the telephone with proper etiquette

Mathematical Skills

Basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division); ability to use a calculator and calculate percentages and ratios

Make change in American monetary units

Reasoning ability; multitask while attentive to customers and flexible to business needs

Work as part of a team and take initiative independent of direct supervision

Defuse escalated exchanges and create win‑win situations

Physical Demands & Work Environment This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing and standing for at least two consecutive hours. May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching and climbing ladders. Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Involves lifting at least 25 lbs and up to 50 lbs in some departments. Work performed indoors but may be assigned outdoors depending upon location.

Available to work a variety of hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

General Experience 1 year responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales store work of any kind in which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience 1 year progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing duties which constitute the principal work of the position to be filled.

Substitution of Education for Experience College, university or junior college completion above high‑school level may be substituted on the basis of one half academic year of study for six months of experience. At any level specialized experience may be substituted for required general experience. Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess or have potential to develop the qualities of successful supervision.
