Field Based Role

Who are we? Henderson Group are proud to be Northern Ireland’s leading foodservice provider. Our group encompasses Henderson Wholesale, Henderson Retail, Henderson Foodservice and Henderson Group Property. We employ over 5,500 staff and have been placed 3rd in Ulster Business Top 100 Companies 2025.

Henderson Group Property is an award‑winning team delivering high‑quality, sustainable retail developments across Northern Ireland. From acquisition to project management, we provide a specialised end‑to‑end service, with direct responsibility for Henderson Retail stores, including petrol forecourts, stand‑alone outlets, and neighbourhood centres with tenants like Subway and Winemark.

A look into the role As a Maintenance Painter with Henderson Group, you will play a vital role in maintaining the professional appearance and brand standards of our retail outlets, including SPAR, EUROSPAR, VIVO, and VIVOXTRA.

You will carry out high‑quality internal and external painting and decorating works across multiple sites, ensuring all surfaces are prepared correctly and finishes are applied in line with brand, quality, and safety standards. Your work will contribute directly to creating clean, welcoming, and well‑presented retail environments for customers and colleagues.

Alongside decorating, you will complete minor plastering, timber, and finishing repairs, making good areas following removals, general wear and tear, or minor damage. You will also undertake non‑specialist maintenance tasks to doors, frames, trims, fixtures, and fittings, supporting the ongoing upkeep of our stores.

This is a varied, hands‑on role that requires a high level of independence and organisation. You will manage your workload across different locations while liaising professionally with store teams to minimise disruption to trading. A strong commitment to health and safety is essential, as is accurately recording completed works.

If you take pride in your workmanship, enjoy working across different locations, and like seeing the direct impact of your work in a retail setting, this role offers a rewarding opportunity within a well‑established and respected organisation.

At least 1 year experience as a Painter & Decorator or equivalent practical experience

Experience preparing and finishing a variety of surfaces to a high standard

Experience working independently across multiple sites or locations

Good understanding of health & safety requirements and safe systems of work

The Attributes you’ll need include:

High attention to detail and pride in delivering quality workmanship

Ability to plan and manage your workload independently

Good communication and customer service skills when dealing with store teams and colleagues

Ability to work professionally and safely within live retail environments

It is desirable if you have:

Hands‑on experience carrying out painting and decorating works in commercial or retail environments

Experience working across facilities, retail, or multi‑site maintenance settings

Experience carrying out both planned (scheduled) and reactive (ad‑hoc) maintenance tasks

An understanding of retail brand standards and the importance of presentation in customer‑facing environments

Practical experience using maintenance reporting or job management systems to receive, update, and close jobs
