Job Summary
El Paso Water Utilities is hiring a Pipe Laying Technician for various locations within the City of El Paso, TX. The position is a Civil Service role, non‑exempt, with a job number of 21140‑0126.
Salary ranges from $36,321.58 to $52,303.08 annually. The opening date was January 15, 2026 and the closing date is January 27, 2026 at 11:59 PM Mountain.
Responsibilities
Under general supervision, perform, assist, and train assigned crew personnel in laying, fitting, and caulking pipe for water and wastewater lines.
Execute semi‑skilled and skilled pipefitting work, including cutting, laying, and fitting pipe for water and wastewater systems.
Caulk joints with molten lead, cement, or other compounds; thread pipe using mechanical means.
Inspect, operate, install, and repair fire hydrants and water meters of all sizes.
Make taps under water pressure, install and operate valves and related fittings.
Lay brick and set batter boards; coordinate and spot‑mark buried utilities in collaboration with public utilities.
Excavate and shore trenches.
Maintain crew schedules, keep time cards, and prepare daily activity and work reports.
Qualifications
One (1) year of experience in pipe laying operations or construction, maintenance, or repair work.
Valid Texas Class "C" driver’s license or an equivalent license issued by another state if assigned driving duties.
Knowledge and experience in making taps, operating valves, and excavating trenches.
Ability to lay, fit, and caulk pipe for water and wastewater lines.
