Event Manager
Inside Higher Ed is recruiting an Event Manager for its Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE) division at Stanford Main Campus, 560 Fremont Road.
LBRE is the operational core of Stanford University’s physical campus, responsible for constructing and maintaining the campus, preserving 8,180 acres, and supporting the university’s academic mission. The Event Manager plans and manages audio‑visual and furnishing needs for special events, coordinates contractors, and oversees additional services from other departments to ensure smooth logistics and successful technical delivery.
What You Will Do
- Meet with clients to plan logistics, define scope, and explain department services.
- Oversee staff and contractors to ensure event details are executed smoothly.
- Review event plans to determine required resources and anticipate client needs.
- Work largely independently while collaborating with the Event Services team.
- Schedule staff, contractors, and equipment to achieve positive outcomes.
- Lead major campus events such as New Student Orientation, Reunion, Family Weekend, Admit Weekend, and Commencement.
- Maintain records of venues and vendors.
- Engage stakeholders to plan scope, format, budgets, and monitor event progress.
- Serve as project leader coordinating planning, implementation, and management of all event aspects.
- Manage venue, equipment, and facilities budgets.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
- Negotiate vendor contracts to minimize liability and risk.
- Research and recommend potential event locations, evaluating alternatives.
- Procure and coordinate vendor services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in event management.
- Valid non‑commercial Class C California driver’s license.
- Demonstrated success planning events.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong prioritization, time‑management, and multitasking skills.
- Creativity, problem‑solving, initiative, and sound judgment.
- Diplomatic communication skills and customer service orientation.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online document tools (e.g., Google Docs).
- Effective collaboration with diverse groups and customers.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, desk‑based computer tasks, and telephone use.
- Occasional kneeling, twisting, bending, stooping, and light/fine manipulation of objects.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing 21–40 pounds.
- Must be able to drive during day or night.
Certificates and Licenses
- Valid California Class C driver’s license is required.
Working Conditions
- May require travel, evenings, and weekends.

Pay Range
The expected pay range for this position is $82,650 to $91,156 per annum. Final pay will be determined by scope, qualifications, departmental budget, and market comparables.
