Day in the Role As a Broadband Network Specialist at the City of Pharr, you will play an essential role in ensuring the seamless operation of our private and public FTTH fiber optic, wired, and wireless networks. Your primary responsibility will be to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues, as well as perform routine maintenance. This hands‑on position requires expertise in cutting, splicing, and terminating fiber optic cables while documenting processes accurately. You will locate problem areas, conduct repairs, and execute programming and diagnostics tasks. In addition, you will provide technical support tousers, guiding them on network systems and the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of network and fiber optic systems. Your technical acumen will extend to the installation and configuration of video surveillance equipment and training users on optimal software and hardware setups, ensuring a robust and efficient networking experience for all city residents.

Requirements

Must be knowledgeable on the practices and principles of fiber to the home/premise networks.

Knowledge of implementing managing and monitoring local and wide area networks.

Knowledge of implementing managing and monitoring wireless networks.

Knowledge of network diagnostic tools and broadband ISP networks.

Capable of working in a fast‑paced environment and effectively manage tasks/projects.

Proficient in computer software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.

Must be customer‑service oriented, always have a friendly attitude and professional appearance.

Skill in effectively using job‑related networking equipment.

Skill in effectively using job‑related diagnostic equipment.

Must pass a thorough criminal background check due to the sensitivity of the information handled by this position.
