Minimum Requirements

60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited institution, which includes four courses in computer science, graphic design, web design, multimedia design or management information systems; or

A 720-classroom hour program study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in graphic design, web design, multimedia design, data processing, or computer science; or

One (1) year of experience in the above-related fields can substitute for the required education.

Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.

Additional Requirements Occasional travel, including overnight and sometimes up to two weeks at a time on an emergency program, required.

Job Duties This position is responsible for the preparation of technical, scientific and educational materials for printing and online posting. It also is responsible for development, design and maintenance of the division’s internal and external websites. The materials developed assist the division technical staff in their duties to identify biological specimens and disease symptoms, train technical and field personnel, and educate industry and the public.

Webmaster

Creates, designs and maintains division’s internal communications webpages in Microsoft SharePoint.

Creates, designs and maintains division’s external content on FDACS.gov through the department webservices team.

Creates, designs and maintains Smartsheet content for Public Information and Outreach section.

Updates and requests changes to content on Don’tPackaPest.com and communicates with contractors who maintain this site.

Maintains and expands content on Florida State Collection of Arthropods website in WordPress.

Graphic Design

Creates original artwork and prepares for printing and online posting all materials submitted by the administrative, technical and regulatory bureaus including brochures, displays, scientific publications, business forms, logos, posters, animation and other graphics that may be required using Adobe Creative Cloud products.

Designs and edits infographics, art and concepts for outreach materials including items used for social media platforms.

Creates type styles and sizes for titles, headings and text.

Selects colors and papers and determines percentages of screens.

Sizes photographs, drawings, charts, maps, etc., and fits them into a text.

Designs and prepares layouts, including marks and notations for the printer.

Displays and Outreach

Designs and builds educational, outreach displays, and exhibits.

Designs displays incorporating three-dimensional models, used to educate industry, scientists and the general public about DPI programs and regulatory responsibilities.

Digital Media

Serves as backup for print producer, preparing documents and managing external printer, communicating with outside vendors about print jobs, and maintaining art room supplies, inventory and equipment.

Serves as backup video editor for informational videos produced within the office of Technical Assistance on programs and activities for distribution to internal and external customers.

Assists the Public Information Director with various special projects and assignments, including emergency programs, when necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and WordPress.

Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software including InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop.

Knowledge of design and graphic design principles, including typography and layout.

Knowledge of color, inks, papers and screening, and working knowledge of printing technology.

Ability to effectively communicate and work with professionals from different disciplines as well as other co-workers.

Ability to lift 25 pounds.
