Located on the southeast Atlantic coast in Brunswick, midway between Savannah, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida, the College of Coastal Georgia is an undergraduate college in the University System of Georgia with an additional outreach through the Camden Center in Kingsland, Georgia. Job Summary This position is responsible for enforcing state and local laws as well as campus regulations and for protecting life and property for the College of Coastal Georgia. This position is designated by the institution as Essential Personnel and as Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Responsibilities
Provides customer service and builds trust through positive interactions with campus and surrounding community.
Patrols to detect and visibly deter crime and to ensure the physical security of the institution's assets.
Investigates suspicious activities or persons, criminal or non‑criminal incidents, and traffic accidents.
Prepares required reports. Testifies in court as required.
Enforces applicable laws, makes arrests of individuals who have committed crimes.
Responds to and provides management during emergency incidents.
Provides security and traffic enforcement at special events.
Ensures transparent compliance with standards, regulations, and policies.
Performs related work as required.
Required Qualifications Educational Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent
Other Required Qualifications
Meet current requirements set forth by the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia
Must possess a current valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and pass a yearly Motor Vehicle Report review.
Must successfully pass a pre‑employment drug test and will be subject to random drug testing.
Must successfully pass a pre‑employment psychological exam.
Preferred Experience
More than one‑year related police experience
Abilities Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to work while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, running, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
Ability to work in buildings and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed hazardous or dangerous situations. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. as well as other specialized law enforcement equipment.
Knowledge
Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles and practices.
Knowledge of community policing principles.
Knowledge of emergency preparedness, response and recovery principles.
Knowledge of public safety principles as related to college campuses.
Skills
Skill in the operation of computers and job‑related software programs.
Skill in the operation of specialized law enforcement equipment.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
