As part of a transformative terminal development effort, the organization is seeking an experienced Public Outreach Specialist to support proactive, coordinated communications and community engagement.

About the Position The Public Outreach Specialist II (TDIP Communication Manager) plays a key role in supporting public-facing communications, outreach, and engagement activities for complex airport infrastructure projects. This position works closely with multiple project teams and internal stakeholders to help deliver the Terminal Development Improvement Program’s (TDIP) communication and community outreach strategy.

This is a hands-on, collaborative role responsible for developing and implementing communication materials, coordinating media and public events, managing digital content, and ensuring consistent, accurate messaging throughout all phases of project delivery—from planning and design through construction. The ideal candidate is an experienced communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment and excels at translating complex technical information into clear, accessible messaging for diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, coordinate, and distribute project communication materials, including FAQs, fact sheets, advisories, press releases, presentations, and briefing materials, ensuring alignment with approved messaging and branding standards.

Support internal and external communications by coordinating information sharing across public relations, community relations, government affairs, airport operations, guest experience teams, external partners, and community stakeholders.

Attend project meetings to gather updates and translate technical or construction-related information into clear, audience-appropriate messaging.

Coordinate logistics for media events, press tours, milestone announcements, and other public-facing project activities.

Provide strategic communications support to project leadership.

Track, monitor, and report on public inquiries, complaints, and project-related concerns, escalating sensitive issues as needed.

Maintain and update project website content, including advisories, announcements, schedules, and meeting materials, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Support visual and digital communications by coordinating photography and videography, maintaining a project photo library, and assisting with social media content development.

Assist with stakeholder engagement initiatives and maintain organized records of outreach and communications activities.

Collaborate with contractors and consultants to implement project communication protocols and requirements.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Planning, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in public or stakeholder communications, preferably supporting large-scale infrastructure, transportation, or civic projects.

Strong understanding of public project lifecycles, phasing, and communication requirements.

Exceptional written, visual, and verbal communication skills.

Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Experience engaging with diverse communities, government agencies, contractors, and media outlets.

Advanced proficiency with Canva, Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).

Experience using email marketing platforms (e.g., Benchmark) to distribute public advisories and notifications.

Proficiency with digital communication tools including website CMS, social media platforms, and email marketing systems.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive.

Relevant professional licensure or certifications in communications or public relations preferred.

Ability to pass a federal background check.
