Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Communications & Marketing for a well-respected municipality in Missouri. This is a full-time onsite role (potential for some hybrid flexibility) based in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This impactful leadership role guides strategic communications, marketing, and public engagement efforts for a well-established municipality. The Director will advance transparent, inclusive messaging and elevate organizational visibility across digital, print, and public platforms. This position also serves as a trusted advisor to leadership, helping shape communication strategy and supporting unified, timely responses during critical moments.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead organization-wide communications, marketing, and public engagement strategies that advance visibility and community connection Serve as a primary media and public contact, preparing press materials, statements, and key messaging Oversee digital content, social media, and marketing campaigns to promote programs, services, and initiatives Coordinate crisis and emergency communication efforts to ensure clear, timely, and unified messaging Partner with internal teams to support cohesive branding, internal communications, and collaborative outreach Manage and develop communications staff while overseeing departmental resources and project workflows
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience leading communications, marketing, or public engagement work in complex or multi-stakeholder environments Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills across diverse media formats Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners in a professional and inclusive manner Proficiency with digital communication tools, social platforms, and analytics to guide effective outreach Demonstrated ability to lead projects, prioritize competing needs, and adapt to fast-paced or evolving situations
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position offers competitive compensation range of $145-194K (aligned with experience) along with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee well-being. Benefits include robust health coverage, paid time off, retirement plan participation, and additional supportive resources that promote work-life balance and long-term professional growth.
The City participates in the Missouri Municipal Retirement Fund, with a 98% City contribution and a 2% employee contribution, with 100% vesting at 5 years.
The City has a comprehensive, cost-effective benefits package that includes the following: medical, dental, life insurance, long-term disability, short-term disability, voluntary vision, flexible spending options, employee assistance program, retirement and deferred compensation programs.
The City provides vacation leave, sick leave, funeral leave, jury leave, and military leave. Additionally, the City offers 12 paid holidays, 2 personal days, and all non-essential employees are off during a city closure between the Christmas Day Holiday and New Year's Day Holiday.
