Position Summary:
The Instructional Development Specialist of the Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies designs and develops learning solutions to support the overall curriculum. This person contributes to the development of standards for online and instructor‑led course development, instructor training, participant and instructor materials, online performance support solutions, and learning evaluation. Provides technological support for events as needed.

The ideal candidate provides support to faculty, students, and staff with classroom technology, particularly with Canvas, Zoom, and other learning tools. They possess extensive skills and experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, as well as a willingness to support cross‑functional teams.
Workplace Requirements:
On‑campus position: This position is exclusively on‑site, necessitating all duties to be performed in person at Anderson‑Clarke Center. Position hours are from 11 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday, and Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., including some weekends. Rice policy 440 may be subject to change.
Hiring Range: Minimum $50,000. *Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, may be substituted on an equivalent year‑for‑year basis.
1+ years of experience in educational technology support, instructional design and development, and project management
In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education above and beyond what is required may be substituted on an equivalent year‑for‑year basis.
Skills:
Working knowledge of Windows 11, macOS, and all MS Office applications
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work assignments with a sustained heavy workload
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with program staff, faculty, course teams, and external contractors
Demonstrated project management capabilities using established project planning tools and software
Substantial knowledge and skills in current educational technologies, software, and learning platforms such as Canvas
Essential Functions:
Performs analysis of learning and business needs
Proactively consults with subject matter experts to identify and formulate learning objectives and content
Designs learning and performance support solutions
Drafts storyboards and prototypes
Designs and develops course content, instructor and participant materials, including performance support materials
Implements, evaluates, and maintains learning solutions
Interacts with vendors during design, development, and implementation processes as needed
Performs all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions:
Provide support and training to faculty, students, and staff for classroom technology, especially Canvas, Zoom, and other technologies
Manage and train student workers for the school’s Zoom room
Provide backup tech support for the school’s Zoom room
Provide evening tech support for online courses
Provide backup operations support as needed
Assist with supporting events
Assist in communicating Rice Central updates related to teaching and learning technology with GSCS staff, faculty, and students
Coordinate projects with the GSCS Digital Learning team, including videographer and Rice Digital team
Maintain and respond to tickets related to Canvas or other technology issues and support
