CCCYO Camp and Retreat Center offers year-round residential camping adventures to youth and adults through Summer Camp, Outdoor Environmental Education and Retreats. The CCCYO Summer Camp Director and Camp Administrative Assistant works as part of the core leadership team managing the operations and programming of Summer Camp at the CYO Camp property and is responsible for all aspects of Summer Camp and assists with administrative tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

Organize, plan and lead the CCCYO Summer Camp program;

Work with the Leadership Team of CYO Camp to develop and implement a marketing plan to increase full pay campers and reach specific underserved demographics;

Coordinate a marketing work plan with leadership team, including the design of all marketing media for summer programs;

Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and support summer camp staff, including seasonal leadership and counselors;

Assist with OEE staff trainings as needed;

Recruit, interview and schedule all Counselors in Training for summer programming;

Design and coordinate the annual staff training using best practices and cutting‑edge resources;

Recruit and schedule all campers for the summer programs;

Manage all summer camp related correspondence including emails and phone calls;

Foster a positive, respectful, and engaging camp culture for campers and staff;

Ensure camper safety at all times, including implementation and enforcement of health, safety, and emergency procedures;

Oversee daily camp operations, schedules, activities, and special events;

Serve as the primary on‑site leader and decision‑maker during the summer season;

Communicate effectively with campers, families, staff, and CYO leadership;

Manage camp resources, supplies, and facilities in coordination with CYO leadership;

Respond appropriately to incidents, concerns, or emergencies and complete required documentation;

Assist with the upkeep and development of the CCCYO Camp website;

Process all financial assistance applications and award scholarships according to the set guidelines and fund amounts;

Process all required financial reports and report out as necessary;

Maintain all professional relationships with outside agencies and stakeholders;

Responsible for the morale of the summer staff community and their well‑being;

Develop new curriculum to improve and create additional program offerings;

Serve as Retreat Center Host for retreat events periodically and as available;

Ensure that high‑quality programs are provided for all participants and guests;

Maintain the cleanliness of program facilities;

Follow all standards of the American Camp Association and the State of California regulations for Organized Camps;

In coordination with the Director of Operations, develop the yearly operating goals for all CYO Camp Summer Camp programs to support the goals and missions of CYO Camp and Retreat Center and Catholic Charities San Francisco;

Responsible for the direct management of the Summer Camp budget under the supervision of the Director of Operations;

Assist with administrative office tasks including but not limited to invoices, merchandise inventory, receptionist duties, and financial reporting;

Provide and maintain a safe, high‑quality program on a weekly basis for all participants and guests.

Education & Experience

BA degree or equivalent camp program management experience;

Experience working with both adults and children;

Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and motivate staff.

Qualifications

Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills;

Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast‑paced, outdoor environment;

American Red Cross First Aid/CPR (Instructor level preferred);

Strong knowledge of the ACA Accreditation Standards and the regulations of Organized Camps for the state of California.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Experience in positive program design and implementation relating to different levels of child development;

Experience in building and leading large staff teams;

Ability to develop and maintain professional relations with parents, campers, and group liaisons within a diverse community;

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and networking skills;

Ability to develop and manage marketing opportunities through different social media venues;

Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross‑cultural situations.

Physical Demands

Frequent bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and walking; frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling;

Frequent repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers;

Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, up to 10 pounds constantly;

Close visual acuity required for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading;

Driving required; must have a valid California driver’s license.

Working Environment

Outdoor nature, remote setting;

Contact with many children, often noisy and behaviorally challenged;

Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather;

Exposure to noise in indoor and outdoor settings;

Occasional exposure to perfume or scents in personal care products used by clients.
