Senior Director, Operational Risk – Treasury Services. Responsibilities
Lead the second line of defense operational risk management coverage for our Treasury Services Platform, overseeing risks related to payment systems, cash clearing, FX settlement, liquidity management, cash & credit management, Banking as a Service (embedded banking services, API integration, and fintech partnerships), and global trade finance (letter of credit, guarantees, supply chain finance).
Partner with teams across product, operations, engineering, legal, and compliance to support and oversee risk in this evolving domain.
Define and execute the global operational risk management framework across the Treasury Services Platform globally.
Lead the identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of key operations risks (operational, conduct, third party, and cyber) in the Treasury Services Platform and associated business lines.
Ensure resilience and control effectiveness in large-scale global platforms and products.
Engage with product and technology teams to ensure safe and scalable innovation with appropriate risk mitigation protocols for execution risk.
Provide effective risk management challenge and oversight of change initiatives, including new or modified products and process changes, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, and mitigated effectively.
Anticipate emerging risks (geopolitical, macroeconomic, regulatory, technology) and advise leadership on strategic response.
Drive alignment between global standards and local operational requirements; embed a strong risk culture and educate stakeholders on risk matters.
Communicate risk insights effectively to senior leadership and stakeholders to support informed risk-taking and integration of risk management into decision-making and business processes.
Act as senior point of contact for the business and auditors on Treasury Services risk matters; present at global forums and represent Operational Risk at committees and engagements.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to simplify risk processes and leverage technology for enhanced risk oversight.
Oversee and review risk incidents and ensure remediation efforts minimize impact and prevent recurrence.
Prepare concise executive-level presentations and reports for governance and regulatory engagements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in business, finance, or related discipline; relevant industry qualifications are an advantage.
12-15 years of experience in a global, financial or professional services firm.
Prior experience in Treasury Services in first or second line of defense is essential.
Strong working knowledge of global regulatory environment and risk frameworks.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to influence a diverse set of stakeholders at all levels.
Prior experience managing a team, with ability to manage multiple deliverables and competing priorities.
Excellent technical and strategic risk skills including analytical, critical thinking and data analytics.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to interact with colleagues and present to internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to learn, assimilate new information quickly and adjust to a changing environment.
Benefits and compensation BNY offers highly competitive compensation, benefits, and wellbeing programs rooted in a strong culture of excellence and a pay-for-performance philosophy. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $200,000 and $400,000 per year at the commencement of employment; final base salary is determined on experience and market location and may include additional compensation components as part of the total package.
