Position Summary
The Director of Engineering provides leadership and advanced technical expertise in all areas of property maintenance and facility operations. This role has overall responsibility for maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant with a strong focus on safety, security, asset protection, and regulatory compliance.
The Director of Engineering is accountable for managing operating and capital budgets, preventive maintenance programs, energy conservation initiatives, and long-term asset protection plans. This position develops and implements strategies that deliver reliable products and services that meet or exceed the expectations of guests and associates while maximizing financial performance. The role also leads the property’s emergency response team for all facility-related issues.

What You’ll Get to Do
Managing Engineering Operations and Budgets
Lead all engineering and maintenance operations for the property
Partner with property and regional engineering leadership to monitor performance against budget and identify areas of concern
Develop and manage the Engineering department operating budget
Oversee the physical plant, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, water treatment, and building systems in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures
Administer service contracts to support operational and maintenance needs
Control and monitor heat, light, power, and water consumption
Develop an engineering operating strategy aligned with property and brand business objectives
Integrate departmental goals into overall property action plans
Oversee execution of preventive maintenance programs and long-term asset protection and 10-year capital plans
Review financial reports and operating statements to evaluate performance against budget
Proactively address financial or operational risks and propose solutions to ownership and leadership
Supervise construction and capital projects to ensure timely completion within approved budgets
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
Maintain life safety systems, including fire protection, sprinkler, and alarm systems
Ensure all building licenses, permits, inspections, and certifications are current
Ensure property policies and procedures are administered fairly and consistently
Lead and train the emergency response and fire safety teams to ensure readiness
Managing Profitability
Manage departmental operations to achieve or exceed budgeted financial goals
Monitor and manage payroll and labor controls
Control departmental expenses including utilities, tools, equipment, supplies, uniforms, vendors, and service agreements
Participate in the development and execution of capital expenditure plans
Prepare weekly and period-end P&L critiques
Understand and communicate the impact of Engineering operations on overall property financial performance
Conducting Human Resources Activities
Ensure associates are treated fairly, respectfully, and equitably
Complete disciplinary documentation in accordance with SOPs and LSOPs and support the Peer Review Process
Maintain an open-door policy to identify and resolve associate concerns
Recognize and celebrate team member achievements and successes
Resolve guest concerns related to engineering and facilities promptly and professionally
Partner with Human Resources as needed on associate relations matters
Ensure consistent communication across the Engineering team regarding daily operations, priorities, and expectations
Education and Experience
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or a related professional area
Technical training in HVAC-R, Electrical, and Plumbing
OR
2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related field
Minimum of 4 years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or a related professional area
Technical training in HVAC-R, Electrical, and Plumbing
