Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Director, Technical Revenue that will be a part of the worldwide revenue accounting team, part of the Supermicro worldwide Finance and Accounting organization. The role is a high-energy, hands‑on individual that mentors and nurtures a team of Revenue Managers and Senior Revenue Analysts. The Director, Technical Revenue will act as a technical subject‑matter expert on ASC 606 and interface with the revenue team, other finance functions, and external auditors to own the technical accounting guidance and application within revenue transactions worldwide.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the revenue cycle to ensure accurate revenue recognition under ASC 606, including updating revenue recognition policy manuals and procedures.
- Lead technical accounting discussions related to revenue recognition and serve as the subject‑matter expert to drive matters to conclusion.
- Communicate highly technical perspectives to individuals with varying degrees of experience, including sales personnel, customer‑facing staff, other finance personnel, and management.
- Drive integration alignment between revenue‑related areas, enhancing accounting‑based key revenue controls, operational improvements, and providing analytics to support strategic decisions and potential system enhancements and automations.
- Review customer contracts for revenue‑recognition implications and work with Sales to structure transaction deals, exercising judgment within defined policies and authoritative literature to determine appropriate action.
- Prepare technical accounting memos and provide guidance to non‑finance organizations based on new accounting guidelines.
- Manage the monthly revenue close process, ensuring timely completion of all close analysis and reviews.
- Work actively with external and internal auditors to ensure company revenue recognition interpretations and internal guidance are consistent and compliant with GAAP and all technical pronouncements.
- Implement timely reporting and process improvements based on industry trends, authoritative literature, and business objectives.
- Evaluate and assess technical revenue recognition aspects for proper accounting on any new company‑level business models.
- Prepare and deliver frequent technical revenue‑recognition trainings to the revenue team and accounting personnel to improve technical knowledge and know‑how.
- Keep up‑to‑date knowledge on new revenue‑related accounting pronouncements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in accounting, preferably with a Big 4 firm and public companies with multiple, complex revenue streams in a high‑growth environment; multinational industry experience.
- Licensed CPA required.
- In‑depth knowledge of revenue accounting for multi‑element arrangements with strong application knowledge of ASC 606.
- Ability to conduct technical accounting research and document findings.
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills and ability to collaborate and interact professionally with personnel at various levels to drive sound business decisions.
- Ability to present information confidently and accurately to internal management and external auditors.
- Strong judgment and decision‑making skills.
- Exceptional organizational and project‑management skills, including managing large‑scale/global initiatives.
- Experience managing team members to achieve results and training employees.
- Matrix leadership experience of direct reports and cross‑functional teams (Finance, Marketing, Legal).
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and high‑pressure situations while solving problems and multitasking effectively.
- Strong knowledge of SOX requirements, including assessment, development, and implementation of internal controls.
- Experience with larger ERP systems (SAP), RevPro, and related data across a global business.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Salary Range
$187,000 - $205,000. The salary offered will depend on factors such as location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
