Position Overview
The Assistant Director collaborates closely with the Director to oversee the day-to-day operations of the school, ensuring excellence in curriculum delivery, teacher development, and family partnerships. This role combines instructional leadership with administrative management, advancing TBS’s mission of providing a high-quality, holistic education. The Assistant Director must also demonstrate the ability to work a
flexible schedule , sharing responsibility for center operations and supporting staff, children, and families whenever needed.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional & Curriculum Leadership
Fully understand, implement, and evaluate curriculum by age group, ensuring alignment with TBS’s philosophy.
Support teachers in adapting the curriculum to meet the diverse developmental needs, learning styles, and milestones of students.
Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to ensure instructional quality.
Promote innovation in teaching practices and integrate best practices in early education and elementary instruction.
Teacher Development & Staff Leadership
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and inspire a team of passionate, committed teachers.
Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and professional development to build a growth-oriented teaching culture.
Ensure staff complete at least
20 hours of professional development annually .
Supervise and evaluate staff performance while maintaining high standards of professionalism.
Family & Community Engagement
Collaborate with families to support their children’s educational and developmental needs.
Build and maintain strong parent and staff relationships, resulting in high retention and referrals.
Communicate with parents on school, child, or staff matters in partnership with the Director.
Conduct tours for prospective families and represent the school at community events and organizations.
Contribute to enrollment growth through relationship building, outreach, and marketing efforts.
Operational & Administrative Oversight
Assist in overseeing tuition payment, invoicing, and reporting for families.
Ensure compliance with all state and local educational and licensing requirements, policies, and procedures.
Share responsibility for opening/closing the school with the Director and other administrators, including occasional evenings/weekends.
Independently manage daily and weekly evaluations, reports (accident/incident), and staff/child records.
Support financial operations by assisting in budget monitoring and reporting.
Demonstrate strong time management, communication, and organizational skills, handling multiple priorities and crisis situations effectively.
Adapt to shifting needs with flexibility in scheduling and responsibilities, including evenings, weekends, and coverage for staff/leadership as necessary.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field preferred
(nursing, psychology, sociology, child/lifespan development considered).
Minimum 1+ years of experience in childcare or education, with supervisory responsibilities.
Prior experience working with infants, toddlers, preschool, and/or early elementary children.
Demonstrated success in teacher supervision, curriculum oversight, and instructional coaching.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer literacy.
Capacity to understand and support financial operations.
Ability to work a flexible schedule , including occasional evenings and weekends.
Skills and attributes suited for working with children, parents, coworkers, and leadership.
