(Open to Remote, USA)
A little about us. Splunk is here to build a safer and more resilient digital world. We’re proud to say that we’re the key to enterprise resilience for more than 11,000 enterprise organizations that use our Unified Security and Observability Platform to keep their systems secure and reliable. We’re also especially proud of our award-winning (https://www.splunk.com/en_us/about-splunk/awards.) culture and our regular appearance on those “Best Places to Work” lists.
If you end up joining us, we’ll only ask you one thing: bring your whole, authentic self, what we call your million data points (https://www.splunk.com/en_us/resources/videos/a-million-data-pointssplunkers-share-their-stories.html). So bring your work experience, problem‑solving skills and talent, of course, but also bring your joy, your passion and all the things that make you, you. Because when you feel free to be you, it makes it a lot easier for us to be us.
The Opportunity
As a Director of User Experience Design, you and your team will be directly responsible for shaping the experience of Splunk’s products across the broader ecosystem. Your work will ensure our products deliver insightful, cohesive, and increasingly effortless experiences that scale across jobs, personas, and product lines.
You will be part of the Product Experience (PX) organization, reporting to a Senior Director of User Experience. Our mission is to make user experience a true differentiator for Splunk—one that drives customer trust, adoption, and long‑term value in a rapidly evolving and competitive market.
In this role, you will work closely with cross‑functional partners across Product Management, Engineering, Research, and other design disciplines to define and communicate a clear design strategy aligned with business goals. You will balance deep UX craft with systems‑level thinking, helping ensure that core product attributes—such as consistency, usability, scalability, and clarity are experienced seamlessly across the Splunk portfolio. As we have recently joined Cisco you will also be key in helping us find opportunities for integrations that bring even more value to customers.
You will draw on real‑world experience in change management and culture building to support and mentor a dynamic team as Splunk continues to evolve as part of Cisco. Identifying opportunities for shared value, alignment, and better ways of working will be critical to strengthening our practice and maximizing impact for both customers and employees.
Key Considerations
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for:
Defining and overseeing work on key product experience objectives
Allocating resources and assignments across teams and initiatives
Managing budgets, staffing, and operational considerations
Reviewing, critiquing, and elevating design quality and outcomes
Partnering with your peers and executive leaders in setting product strategy
You will be expected to provide hands‑on direction, insight, and coaching at the project and portfolio level, while also delegating effectively and setting clear expectations. As a people leader, you will build, mentor, and inspire your team, while contributing to the broader leadership of the UX organization and its partnerships across the company. As a teammate you will help break down silos and invest in finding ways to improve our shared culture and product experience practice.
You will be a great addition to the Splunk Product Experience organization if you:
Use objective research and a rigorous design process to drive measurable business outcomes with lasting impact
Communicate clearly and can articulate complex concepts to audiences at all levels, including executive leadership
Have experience with strategic planning, prioritization, and goal‑setting across functions and business units
Lead with confidence while demonstrating humility, curiosity, and a willingness to learn
Thrive in environments undergoing change and enjoy turning skepticism into shared momentum
Understand how to create air cover and space for teams to learn, grow, and do their best work
Have a passion for systems thinking and solving large, complex, cross‑product problems
Are comfortable navigating ambiguity and difficult conversations with multiple invested partners
Operate with integrity, assume good intent, and keep the broader organization and customer impact in mind
Adapt your leadership style to the situation—knowing when to hold the line and when to build bridges
Have experience evaluating UX maturity and design compatibility in the context of acquisitions or large integrations
Love building strong, healthy teams as much as crafting great product experiences
Are excited by technology and innovation in general and always seek to explore new ways we can integrate emerging technologies like AI into our products and result in solutions that differentiate us in a competitive market
Requirements
15+ years of UX design experience in B2B or B2C across regulated industries.
10+ years of leading large UX research or product design teams at enterprise scale organizations
Experience working on class‑leading products in data analytics, observability, network security, incident management or data visualization.
A strong body of research‑driven, customer‑centered design work that demonstrates success in informing and delivering on meaningful business outcomes (time to value, churn reduction, product adoption, active use, etc)
Ability to run and navigate organizational change and lead through moments of ambiguity
Fluency with design tools like Figma, Adobe Suite, Miro, etc and interest in new ways of working
Experience with global, asynchronous team coordination and management (e.g., time zone accommodations, cultural differences between locations, etc)
Ability to influence and impact product direction by being a thoughtful, proactive partner
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate design insights clearly and persuasively across different audiences and at all levels of the organization (including executive level partners)
