Job Summary Plans, coordinates, and leads all recreational sports (softball, baseball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, etc.) at camp. Trains other camp staff to lead, chaperone, and monitor recreation activities. Ensure the safety of campers and staff while participating in field or other sporting activities, and ensure a positive experience for campers.

Essential Functions

Plans, develops, coordinates, supervises, and participates in a variety of recreation activities for campers, including field sports (softball, baseball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, etc.) and other sports; organizes activities and promotes participation.

Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.

Supervises recreation activities to ensure the safety of participants; instructs campers and staff in proper methods for play; monitors and directs behavior at all times to ensure compliance with camp rules.

Ensures a positive experience for campers.

Sets up sports and recreation areas for activities, and has all necessary equipment available for activities.

Sit with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed.

Keep personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.

Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Ability to observe children and youth and ensure their safety.

Ability to work with children outdoors in various conditions.

Some physical requirements of the Camp Recreation Specialist position include endurance, including climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.

Eye‑hand coordination and manual dexterity are required to manipulate recreational equipment and participate in activities.

Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions

Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and to work irregular hours, delivering a program at the facility available.

Operate with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions.

Qualifications Education and Experience Two years of experience leading sports or recreation activities preferred.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certifications CPR and First Aid Certification
