The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) Nature and History Camp is seeking temporary Summer Camp
Assistant Directors
to plan and lead a variety of history experiences for campers ages 6-10 or 11-14, to include Design, Plan, and Lead High-quality programs in areas of your skillset such as History, Nature, Music, Sports, STEM, Art. Daily camp activities mainly take place outside and include visiting forts, battlefields, games, crafts, storytelling and physical activities like hiking, marching, running etc. This program operates outdoors for the full duration of the camp day (except during extreme weather conditions). Responsibilities
Staff must commit to working from June 20 - August 8 (core camp dates).Additional weeks from August 14 – August 25 may also be available. Training will begin in mid to late May through June, which includes online courses with virtual and in-person trainings during weekday evenings and a few Saturdays. Hours will vary. Successful candidates will have good character and integrity, effective communication skills, and reliable transportation, including the ability to complete tasks, take initiative, and work successfully in a team environment. Qualifications
Minimums: High school diploma, GED or equivalent; plus Some experience administering recreation programs. Licenses/Certifications:
First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire. Desirables:
Preference may be given to candidates in one or more of the following: Working in Summer Camp programs or Arlington Camps; Working with children; Working outdoors performing hiking, scouting, fishing, or other outdoor skills; Demonstrated interests in Civil War or history; and Experience/willingness to work with individuals with disabilities. Special Requirements If selected, all summer staff may be required to: Agree to a criminal background check (for applicants 18 years and older) Provide references, which will be requested at time of interview. Attend all required trainings, wear a uniform, and have the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Stand and walk for prolonged periods of time during the work shift. Be CPR and First Aid Certified as of the first day of camp for the Camp Director or other designated positions. Possess a driver license and successfully complete a driving license record check (for applicants 18 years and older). Provide personal care as needed to campers (training provided). Additional Information Interviews will be conducted on a continuous basis. Interested applicants should apply as soon as possible. Written notifications will be sent to applicants who applied but were not hired once all positions are filled. Generally, these notifications are sent in mid-July. SRAI & SRAII STATEMENT:
