We have a newly created position for a R&D Packaging Scientist, Manager Foodservice located out of our corporate office in Bloomington, MN. The Packaging Scientist, Manager Foodservice will support the Dairy Queen Brand in developing packaging solutions that bring our iconic treats and food to life. This role will be responsible for setting the overall strategy of the packaging team, building the team, and working with internal and external partners. They will drive innovation across national campaigns, product launches, and test markets, while also leading sustainability initiatives that align with Dairy Queen’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Packaging design will balance operational efficiency, consumer delight, product performance, compliance, and affordability.
Key Accountabilities
Design and implement a forward-looking packaging vision to fuel continuous innovation for consumer‑facing initiatives.
Lead packaging initiatives that improve restaurant operations and guest experience.
Develop and execute product testing procedures for new packaging concepts.
Regulatory, Sustainability & Quality
Outline and own packaging related sustainability goals for Dairy Queen. Will serve as the primary resource to develop and implement actionable strategies.
Develop partnerships with government affairs, public relations, and vendors and industry experts to ensure environmental compliance.
Monitor local and national regulations and develop new products/materials to comply with mandates when needed.
Manage packaging quality assurance programs, resolve supplier issues, and maintain accurate specifications. Provide technical support to field operators for packaging issues in existing restaurants.
Cost Optimization
Create strategy and approach for cost optimization projects.
Partner with Supply Chain to identify key products.
Partner with external vendors.
Talent management, oversee the department and growth of the team.
Develop strategies and team & department goals that align with department mission and business goals.
Provides routine coaching and direction to team members to help ensure department and company goals are prioritized and met.
Identifies and implements strategies to generate team member satisfaction and productivity. Elevates team or project issues to department and company leadership as appropriate.
Provides input to and helps manage department budget.
The US national base salary range for this position is $115,037 - $143,796. This position is also eligible for a bonus. The base salary range displayed reflects the targeted hiring range for positions across all US locations. Individual pay is determined by job‑related skills, work location and relevant education or experience.
Education
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Packaging, Chemical, Mechanical); MS/MEng preferred.
5–7 years of experience in packaging/engineering.
1‑2 years of experience managing people, preferred.
Foodservice or manufacturing experience, preferred.
Understanding of retail/restaurant operations.
Skills
Proven ability to manage vendor relationships successfully.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated creative problem‑solving abilities.
High accuracy and timeliness in completing assignments.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to handle and resolve conflict effectively.
Self‑starter who thrives in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Coaching and mentoring skills with strong follow‑through.
Ability to travel up to 20%.
