Montgomery Theater

is a non-profit professional theater located in Souderton, PA, one hour from Philadelphia. Montgomery Theater is a vital part of the community and a contributor to vast artistic resources of our area. We offer local productions of plays and musical, standup comedy shows, and acting classes and camps for kids. Each year on our intimate 122 seat Main Stage we produce six professional productions. On our 75-seat Project Stage we produce two family-friendly shows, five Comedy Nights, and one New Work. About the role

Montgomery Theater seeks a Scenic Carpenter to oversee all set construction of 2026 Main Stage Productions. The role is on a contractual basis, ideally for an entire season. The candidate will coordinate with the creative team to execute the set designer’s vision, primarily in carpentry. RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Serve as general contractor for the construction of all sets. 2. Consult with the Artistic Director, Set Designer, Director of play/musical and other technical staff to establish requirements specific to each show during scheduled and ad hoc production meetings. 3. Assist with planning for unusual technical and/or engineering requirements, i.e. unique set pieces or speciality materials, as needed. 4. Procurement and transportation of construction materials for each production. 5. Serve as liaison between Montgomery Theater staff and any subcontractors or merchants related to set construction 6. Coordinate with production Lighting and Sound Designers to ensure all technical aspects are taken into consideration during set construction and completion. 7. Convert all scenic designer plans into necessary materials. 8. Facilitate strikes following each production, ensuring safe, organized teardown and storage. REPORTS TO:

Scenic painters and subcontractors as needed QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 3 yrs. experience in theater oriented construction preferred 2. Construction skills, including carpentry and electrical required 3. Basic knowledge of other technical departments such as lighting and sound preferred.

2026 Schedule:

Build begins March 9th. First Preview April 9th. Build begins May 4th. First Preview June 4th. Build begins August 17th. First Preview September 17th. Build begins October 19th. First Preview November 19th.
