Role Overview The
Texas Division Business Development (BD) Manager
is responsible for driving sales and growth in Texas. This position is responsible for leading the regional business development program for an approximate $50 million portfolio and delivering on a minimum 10‑20% year‑over‑year growth in backlog. The successful candidate will collaborate with both sales and operations teams to develop strong client relationships to maintain and grow a robust portfolio. This position will provide strategic direction regarding the sales and growth strategies to meet the regional plan, primarily in the infrastructure / transportation market. The role is responsible to achieve results in alignment with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the overall company strategy.
The Team This position reports into Atlas’ Infrastructure Business, West Region, to the Regional Business Development Senior Vice President with a dotted line into the Regional Senior Vice President. Peers will include other senior sales and operations leaders responsible for regional growth, profit and loss. This role will have no direct reports, at least initially. The Texas BD Manager will lead a client‑relationship team that includes business development professionals and seller/doers who are focused on developing, maintaining, and growing key accounts in the transportation market with excellent customer service and quality work. In addition, the position is responsible for diversifying into water, energy and power, and advanced facilities markets. As this role identifies and develops new business opportunities, a team of dedicated sales and marketing professionals are available for proposal support. This position will work closely with the strategic pursuits team, as well as with operations leaders across the regional Infrastructure business.
Job Responsibilities
Drive organic growth and lead business development efforts in Texas, aligning with strategic objectives.
Establish, nurture, and expand client relationships, serving as a client manager for key accounts.
Oversee Texas client accounts to ensure client satisfaction and retention.
Regular tracking of sales performance, pipeline growth and conversion, and backlog.
Achieve sales Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Partner with the Texas Division Manager (operations) to oversee the Texas infrastructure business and liaise within the broader region.
Develop and execute tailored business development plans for Texas.
Enhance business intelligence by gathering insights on clients, competitors, and market trends.
Utilize strategic processes to anticipate market shifts and prioritize pursuits, contributing to developing capture strategies to secure new business.
Lead and participate in key pursuits and teaming strategies to secure new contracts and projects.
Coach and develop sales talent within Texas, including dedicated BD resources and seller‑doers, to strengthen the team and foster professional growth.
Represent and promote the company at networking events, industry meetings, and trade shows.
Support organic growth by identifying and recruiting strategic hires to enhance business capabilities.
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics to inform business development strategies.
Manage business development overhead spend, including events and initiatives.
Lead Texas strategic initiatives.
Bachelor’s degree with 15 or more years of progressively responsible sales experience leading the growth of an office(s).
Knowledge and experience leading, developing and managing sales programs across a region, with private and public clients in the construction, engineering and science disciplines.
Experience with selling and delivering CMT, CEI, and design services.
Self‑starter with innate sales orientation, optimism and drive; organizational skills and the ability to take prompt action in response to sales leads and deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate across all levels of an organization.
Creative problem‑solving skills in demanding situations.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment with internal and external clients.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint), MS‑Teams, and SharePoint.
Experience with or ability to learn and consistently use client relationship management (CRM) software.
Other Miscellaneous Qualities
Travel across Texas is expected to be approximately 30% – 50% of the time worked.
