Compensation:
$80,000-$85,000 DOE
Summary of Responsibilities The Director of Resident Services is responsible for supporting residents, participants, and families throughout their transition into Assisted Living and Day Program services and throughout their time in the community. This role focuses on social-emotional adjustment, dementia-informed support, and promoting resident success.
The Director of Resident Services participates in interdisciplinary care planning by contributing observations related to resident adjustment and well‑being; assists in identifying supportive services and resources; and serves as an expert on dementia care approaches, resident rights, and applicable assisted living regulations.
Minimum of 3–4 years of experience in geriatrics, including experience working with individuals living with dementia
Demonstrated ability to assess complex care needs related to social‑emotional adjustment and communicate recommendations effectively to resident families, and interdisciplinary team members
Experience facilitating group support (e.g., family caregiver support groups)
Care management or service coordination experience preferred
Dementia‑specific training, certification, or substantial professional experience in dementia care required
Strong knowledge of assisted living regulations, resident rights, and elder abuse prevention
Resident & Family Support
Serve as coordinator of the new resident/family orientation and move‑in team, assisting with assessment of potential residents and determination of appropriateness for Assisted Living
Support residents, participants, and caregivers before and after move‑in to promote successful adjustment to the community
Meet with resident, participant or caregivers to complete the resident/participant profile for the purposes of obtaining any relevant social‑emotional information and assist in easing the transition to assisted living or day program placement
Facilitate family caregiver support group activities as directed or required
Make referrals to internal and external services and community resources as appropriate
Care Planning & Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Participate in interdisciplinary care planning by contributing observations regarding residents’ social‑emotional adjustment and overall success within the community
Collaborate closely with the Resident Care Director and Director of Therapeutic Programming to identify supportive interventions that may reduce distress and promote resident well‑being
Assist in identifying community resources, home care services, and other supports as needed
Dementia Care Knowledge & Staff Education
Serve as a dementia care professional resource for staff, families, and leadership on resident rights, elder abuse and dementia informed care.
Educate and train staff by:
Leading orientation, in‑services training, and/or workshops.
Explaining policies, legal requirements and ethical standards.
Teaching Dementia‑informed approaches and positive engagement strategies.
Work with the Executive Director to support residents, participants, families, and staff in decision‑making related to potential discharge or transfer to more appropriate settings
Assist families in locating appropriate alternative placements when relocation is required, including making referrals and ensuring transfer information is complete
Resource Management & Program Support
Oversee coordination of the Resource Room, including budget authority for purchasing materials, equipment, and maintaining related web‑based resources
Maintain relationships with external service providers and community partners to support resident needs and facilitate referrals
Leadership & Compliance
Participate as a member of the Management Team, including attendance at Morning Meetings and Weekly Management Meetings
Serve as Manager on Duty in rotation
Participate in state surveys, inspections, and regulatory reviews as required
Contribute to safety meetings, incident prevention efforts, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
Perform other duties as assigned to support community operations

Effective support of resident adjustment and transitions
Contributions to incident prevention and resident safety
Quality and impact of staff education related to dementia care, resident rights, and elder abuse prevention
