Jeff Davis County is seeking a dynamic, community-focused individual to serve as library director. The director works closely with library patrons, staff, volunteers, interns, the Friends board, and county officials to steer the development of the library’s collection, programs, and patron services.

Essential Job Functions:

Foster a welcoming and patron-friendly atmosphere

Manage day-to-day library operations

Hire, train, and supervise employees, interns, and volunteers

Manage the library operating budget and purchase library materials

Coordinate and execute a diverse array of patron services and resources

Coordinate library programs and special events for patrons of all ages

Develop and carry out library policies and procedures

Develop and maintain the library’s collection of print, digital, and other materials

Provide monthly report of library statistics and initiatives to County Commissioners and to the Friends of the Library Board

In collaboration with the Friends of the Library board, participate in fundraising efforts to meet the library’s needs

Oversee all compliance and reporting requirements; maintain the library’s accreditation through the Texas State Library and Archives Commission

Manage facilities operations and coordinate with county maintenance personnel as necessary

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree and/or library experience preferred

Administrative and/or management skills

Strong customer service skills

Strong knowledge of computers and computer systems required, including the ability to assist patrons with computer and mobile device questions and issues

Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office, Google Workplace, Zoom, website maintenance platforms, and standard office equipment required; knowledge of library catalog management systems preferred

Strong organization, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills

Ability to initiate, execute, and bring multiple projects simultaneously to completion in a timely manner

Strong ability to prioritize and delegate tasks and projects

Willingness to provide programs and services to children, young adults, and seniors

Willingness to develop professional skills needed to adequately perform the job assignment
