$110,000.00 To $150,000.00 Annually

SUMMARY The Director of the Emergency Department is responsible for planning, implementing, administering, and evaluating patient care delivery in the Emergency Department. This position directs, supervises, and coordinates the activities of all personnel in this clinical area. The ED Director maintains treatment activities of the departments in compliance with standards of practice, departmental and hospital policies and procedures and regulatory standards such as Joint Commission, IDPH, and the Illinois EMS act.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Service: Provides and gives cooperative and courteous service to patients, visitors, staff, physicians, volunteers and other internal/external customers. Ensures that all communications and job activities result in a positive customer experience.

Responsible for directing, implementing, administering, and evaluating patient care in the emergency department.

Maintains treatment and patient care activities of the emergency department in compliance with standards of practice, departmental and hospital policies and procedures and regulatory standards.

Provides support and direction to unit staff by guiding, coaching, developing, and counseling when necessary.

Ensures staff competence through proper orientation, training, supervision and evaluation.

Facilitates employee unit in-services on new policies, procedures, equipment and techniques for patient care.

Maintains appropriate staffing.

Ensures that comprehensive, specific and accurate documentation is maintained in the clinical records.

Serves on hospital committees.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

JOB REQUIREMENTS Required:

Current RN License in the State of Illinois

BSN required

Current CPR, ACLS, PALS License

5 years of clinical staff nursing experience

2 years of management or supervisory experience

Minimum four years’ experience in peri-operative setting

Preferred:

Master’s Degree Preferred

CPI required within 90 days of hire

PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push or move patients and/or equipment. Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel or reach. Normal or corrected vision, hearing and ability to speak are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus and ability to distinguish colors. There will be periods of stressful intense concentration with more than average pressure used in a variety of problem-solving situations.
