Assistant Director of Child Care
For more than a decade, Kiddie Calvert has faithfully nurtured children within the Calvert School community, guiding them from their first steps to their first day of Kindergarten. Kiddie Calvert Cross Keys is a childcare and early learning center that serves families in Baltimore, Maryland. Specializing in the care of infants, toddlers, and preschool‑aged children, our program is designed to build confidence, independence, and academic interest in our boys and girls, preparing them to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Assistant Director of Childcare
to support the overall administration and daily operations of our program. Working under the direction of the Director of Early Childhood Education, the Assistant Director will help ensure a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children, families, and staff. This is a 12‑month, full‑time position.
Responsibilities
Assist with daily center operations, scheduling, and staffing coverage.
Support compliance with state licensing regulations and health and safety standards.
Observe classrooms and assist with maintaining high‑quality teaching practices. Work in classrooms to maintain appropriate ratios as needed.
Communicate professionally and effectively with families. Support family conferences, enrollment, and transitions.
Help maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and staff documentation.
Assist in hiring, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating staff. Support staff onboarding, training, and professional development.
Support implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum. Promote positive behavior guidance and inclusive practices.
Assist with enrollment management, family tours, and waitlists. Support budgeting, ordering supplies, and inventory management.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from a four‑year college or university. A degree in early childhood education, elementary education, or a related field is strongly preferred.
Completed two years of experience in one of the below: Two years of experience working under supervision primarily with preschoolers in a licensed childcare center, nursery school, church‑operated school or similar setting.
Caring for preschoolers as a registered family childcare provider.
Prior management experience is preferred and must have demonstrated skills establishing effective relationships with staff, parents, and children.
Must have the ability to multi‑task and candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Schedule and Compensation
This is a 12‑month position.
The salary range for this position is $60,000–$65,000 annually, and candidates who bring demonstrated expertise beyond the core requirements may be considered for compensation above the listed range, in alignment with their education and experience.
