About the Role
The Company is in search of an Executive Director to lead its mission-driven organization, which has a long history of supporting workers, particularly those in economically vulnerable positions, in accessing good jobs, building skills, and advancing into sustainable careers. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, strengthening the organization's role within the labor movement, and advancing its priorities in the face of rapid technological change and persistent job quality inequities. This includes a focus on emerging technologies such as AI and automation, and the development of programs that align with the labor movement's goals. The Executive Director will also be tasked with expanding the organization's fundraising capacity, overseeing the design and implementation of workforce development initiatives, and serving as the primary spokesperson in national labor, workforce development, and policy conversations.
The ideal Executive Director will have a deep understanding of the labor movement, including the operations and dynamics of various union levels, and a proven track record in organizational management, fundraising, and external relations. They should be adept at building and maintaining relationships across the philanthropic community, workforce system, and with leadership. Experience in workforce development and apprenticeship, particularly in the context of advanced manufacturing, AI, or other emerging fields, is essential. The role requires a leader with strong management and operational skills, a collaborative leadership style, and exceptional communication abilities. A commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaboration is also a core qualification, with a preference for candidates who have direct experience within a labor union and a strong knowledge of national workforce systems and related policy.
