About This Role
We are on the lookout for an exceptional freelance technical writer with a strong foundation in data infrastructure and engineering workflows. Your role will be crucial in conveying our client's innovative concept of 'shift-left data quality,' ensuring a seamless collaboration between developers and data teams by addressing data issues early in the software development lifecycle.
Please be aware that we do not collaborate with writers who subcontract their work.
Responsibilities
Translate intricate concepts such as data contracts, schema evolution, static analysis, and CI/CD integration into clear, actionable content targeting software engineers and data teams.
Create engaging blog posts and thought-leadership articles that showcase how the platform enhances data quality, reliability, and collaboration.
Bridge the knowledge gap between developer and data practitioner audiences (e.g., data engineers, DevOps, platform teams, analytics leaders) through well-crafted content.
Maintain adherence to the client's brand voice and messaging guidelines while crafting captivating and authoritative pieces.
Produce content for developer-oriented platforms (e.g., blogs, newsletters, and technical guides) and stay updated on emerging tools and trends.
Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, and client stakeholders to ensure technical accuracy and capture product nuances.
Uphold high editorial standards for clarity, accuracy, and credibility across all content.
Propose enhancements to boost content performance (SEO, readability, developer engagement).
Manage multiple projects and deadlines, delivering consistent quality at scale.
Conduct comprehensive research to understand client products, target audiences, and industry context, ensuring the content is insightful.
Utilize internal briefs to outline articles effectively, bringing structure and clarity to each piece.
Incorporate keywords and SEO best practices thoughtfully, without sacrificing readability or quality.
Cite credible sources, statistics, and examples to support claims and enhance content credibility.
Adapt writing style to fit various client brands, ensuring authenticity and alignment with brand messaging.
Collaborate closely with editors on revisions and refinements based on feedback, demonstrating openness to improvement.
Consistently meet deadlines and proactively communicate with the editorial lead about progress, questions, or obstacles.
Who You Are
3+ years of experience in a developer-facing role
such as DevRel, developer advocacy, software engineering, or data engineering, utilizing this hands-on experience in your writing. 2+ years of technical writing experience.
You can articulate concepts like CI/CD integration, schema validation, data observability, or contract-driven development to both technical and business audiences. A strong grasp of developer workflows (Git, testing, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, observability tools). Familiarity with data engineering challenges (schema drift, data lineage, pipeline breakage, data quality testing). Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to make technical content engaging and accessible without losing depth. Experience writing for developer audiences via blogs, documentation, tutorials, or newsletters (e.g., Substack, personal blogs, open-source documentation). Comfortable interviewing engineers and SMEs to create content reflecting real-world challenges. SEO knowledge: able to optimize content while prioritizing trust and content quality. Strong organizational skills; always meet deadlines or communicate proactively if challenges arise. A positive, collaborative mindset: curious, open to feedback, and driven to produce high-quality technical content. Portfolio Requirement A recent portfolio showcasing developer-oriented technical writing is essential. Please submit 35 sample articles, tutorials, or newsletters that reflect your ability to convey technical concepts to developer audiences.
