About the Role
The Company is in search of an Interim Director of Development and External Affairs to provide strategic leadership and high-capacity execution during a critical year. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring continuity and fundraising momentum, particularly as the organization assesses and plans for long-term sustainability. This role demands an inspirational, seasoned leader with a strong background in major gifts, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage across multiple revenue streams. The Interim Director will work closely with the Executive Director, a committed development team, and an external lobbying partner to drive private fundraising and government relations efforts. Key responsibilities include serving as a thought partner on strategy, financial forecasting, and risk management, as well as championing a culture of philanthropy, co-leading the External Affairs Committee, and overseeing the execution of development efforts to meet a significant fundraising goal.
The ideal candidate for this interim position at the company will have a community-centered mindset, a proven track record in fundraising, and the ability to build and grow sustainable revenue streams. They should be adept at cultivating relationships with high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and institutional donors, and be skilled in designing and implementing prospect and donor engagement strategies. The role also involves shaping the organization's communications and brand strategy, supporting the Executive Director and Lobbyist in securing public funding, and representing the organization at various events and with stakeholders. The candidate must be self-directed, results-driven, and possess high emotional intelligence, with a leadership style rooted in empathy, trust, and collaboration. Proficiency in development systems, donor databases, and various computer software is essential, as is the ability to travel as needed.
