Assistant Store Director

The Assistant Store Director supports the overall operations of the store, ensuring efficient, profitable, and customer-focused performance. This role is responsible for driving sales and profitability, providing leadership and guidance to department managers and employees, and upholding high standards of customer service, safety, and compliance with company policies and regulations. Responsible for perpetuating the fundamental values of the Hy-Vee culture. This involves honesty, integrity, friendliness, caring for customers and employees, demonstrating sincerity, respect, and high levels of ethics and morals and helps the company improve and grow through company ownership. Core competencies include partnerships, growth mindset, results oriented, customer focused, and professionalism. Reporting relations include accountability to the Regional Vice President and Store Director. Positions that report to you include all store employees. Primary duties and responsibilities include leading and managing all store employees, maintaining a positive attitude and creating an environment that nurtures positive employee morale, providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, setting store standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability, monitoring financial performance, preparing and analyzing reports, collaborating with the Store Director to develop and implement strategies, coordinating and participating in the recruiting, hiring, orientation, and training of store employees, smiling and greeting customers in a friendly manner, assisting customers, fostering a positive, inclusive, and results-driven work environment, helping develop pricing structure and merchandising, supporting the store in determining store advertising plan, understanding consumer trends, reviewing competitors pricing, reviewing all aspects of inventory process, representing the company in a positive manner, participating in local and company-wide community activities, ensuring store's procedures are in place regarding safeguarding of financial assets, maintaining store operations in accordance with Hy-Vee's policies, individual store guidelines, and procedure manual, Code of Ethics, and any applicable local, state, and federal laws, reporting to work when scheduled and working expected number of hours. Secondary duties and responsibilities include pursuing educational opportunities, assisting in all areas of the store as needed, and performing other job-related duties and special projects as required. Knowledge, skills, abilities, and worker characteristics include the ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems, do arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations, report, write, or edit articles for publication, prepare and deliver presentations, interview, counsel or advise people, evaluate technical data, and physical requirements such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Education and experience include high school or equivalent experience, plus Dale Carnegie and perimeter department training, and over five years of similar or related managerial experience.
