This position provides critical support to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) at the National Museum of Health and Medicine (NMHM). This position provides quality photography support to NMHM staff within expected timeframes./ppResponsibilities include but are not limited to:/pulliBased on conditions, selects appropriate camera-film combinations for the subject involved./liliSelects lighting effects (e.g. polarized, stroboscopic, multiple flash. available light), reflectors and filters to produce the desired results./liliConsults with curators about artifact handling before imaging an artifact./liliPositions subjects and/or objects regarding foreground and backgrounds./liliDiscusses what effects or emphasis is desired with both administrative and technical personnel to place proper emphasis on portions and/or present a true perspective of the unit./liliWorks independently, with and without the requester, conceiving, planning, and completing finished product, using traditional photography and electronic imaging to gain required effect./liliTake documentary photographs of museum artifacts and exhibits./liliTakes condition report photographs of museum artifacts going out on loan or exhibit./liliProvide photographic support for museum events./liliProcess and disseminate images as directed./liliResponds to request to provide photographic products from internal or external sources for use in graphic illustrations, posters and brochures./liliPrepares exhibition-quality materials designed to educate, motivate, recognize and or supplement/enhance meetings, seminars, and conventions./liliEffectively uses contrasting shapes, texture shapes, mounting techniques, and lighting to stimulate and retain the interest of the target audience./liliUtilizes and develops techniques for adapting and extending present equipment and processes to meet unprecedented situations./liliOperates a wide range of still cameras and auxiliary lighting equipment to photograph evolving technical programs, under laboratory, field and studio conditions./liliResearch program subject matter and requester requirements, explaining general limitations of photographic techniques and practices./liliPerforms specialized still photographic reporting tasks./liliPerforms a wide range of photographic assignments covering various research and development activities./liliMonitors and reviews relevant government and industry regulations, guidance and provides subject matter expertise to museum personnel./liliPlans and executes photographic detail independently and or in concert with requester./liliCompletes photographic process in its entirety./liliCoordinates with staff and responds accordingly for photographic results to provide a true impression of the subject./liliIntroduces photocopy into graphic illustrations, posters, and brochures./liliResearch program subject matter and requester requirements explaining general limitations of techniques and practices./liliProvides alternative technical approaches to overcome limitations of traditional photographic techniques to satisfy requestor./liliConsistent performance of delivery of requested imagery by the agreed-upon deadline with requester./liliProvides subject matter expertise to all areas of museum mission, when requested./liliAttends regular meetings, or attends other meetings as needed or directed./li/ulpRequirements:/pulliBachelors degree in fine arts or photography./liliAbility to work some weekends and evenings./liliTwo years experience including knowledge of various photographic methods, techniques and material graphic design methods and the importance of each piece./liliCapability to make initial decisions on such design matters as size, layout, kind and quality of materials, medium, color, schemes, typography, lighting effects, specific visual elements or materials to be incorporated, and application of artistic skills throughout. Knowledge of computer-generated and reproduction methods/options./liliKnowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and uses of the various graphic formats (i.e., photography both conventional and digital, TV, print media, computer-generated animation, etc./liliKnowledge and skill to artistically lay out and complete graphic projects utilizing various art mediums including pen and ink, acrylics, watercolors, and computer graphics.
