Overview
The Assistant Director of Workforce Development supports the strategic mission of the Workforce Development Department and reports to the External Affairs Division. The Assistant Director maintains knowledge of regional labor market trends, employer needs, and regional funding priorities to develop and deliver high-quality, relevant training programs. The role provides leadership to the Workforce Training and Development Division and collaborates in providing access to new and expanded workforce training opportunities and designing and delivering comprehensive pathways to employment. This includes (1) personnel management, (2) assisting with budget management, (3) class planning and scheduling, (4) internal and external reporting, (5) data management, and (6) employer relations. The candidate will meet with new and existing businesses and industry leaders to identify the need for new programs and partnerships, and will stay abreast of emerging industries by collaborating with Economic Development Organizations and local/regional government entities. Knowledge of programmatic accreditation/certification is required to develop and execute training programs.
Responsibilities
Oversee multiple workforce development programs across multiple college locations, with travel as appropriate.
Collaborate with local and regional Economic Development Organizations and the Vice President of External Affairs to identify opportunities for developing new or customized training programs.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding training program needs and/or ideas.
Analyze industry needs and seek opportunities to support regional industries with training programs.
Develop, manage, and deliver new workforce training programs and apprenticeships.
Develop new courses and certificate programs to produce workforce contact hour gains and meet revenue goals annually.
Develop, organize, and oversee all College for Kids programs; identify instructors, volunteers, and staff for summer programs.
Oversee onboarding and manage the apprenticeship program for the college.
Collaborate with certification agencies to ensure program alignment, accreditation, and credentialing for new programs.
Lead course design and objectives in collaboration with industry and faculty.
Assist in developing and managing budgets for new workforce training programs.
Identify and recommend individuals from the instructor pool for new programs.
Develop new instructor orientation and supervise program faculty to ensure objectives and compliance with policies.
Provide coordination and leadership for day-to-day operations of newly developed training programs.
Work with the Director of Workforce Development to continue training programs beyond initial execution.
Coordinate training space with campus deans/directors and off-site locations (classrooms and labs).
Survey business and industry to determine program effectiveness and adjust accordingly.
Maintain transparent communication with internal and external stakeholders; provide timely follow-up and reporting of program status.
Report data on enrollment, contact hours, and headcounts; maintain relevant databases.
Resolve conflicts or complaints from students, industry partners, faculty, and staff; advise students and families regarding educational opportunities.
Collaborate with business and industry for partnerships to support advisory committees, program development, donations, enrollment, and job placement.
Promote new training programs by attending industry events, career fairs, high schools, and community meetings; travel as necessary to represent the college.
Organize and conduct information sessions for the general public to promote new programs.
Assist the Director of Workforce Development in seeking grants, managing grant awards, and preparing RFPs for grant submissions.
When necessary, teach courses in areas of expertise and serve as a backup instructor; provide administrative support to the Director and handle inquiries from internal and external constituents.
Perform other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
At times active. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Some outdoor work is required (e.g., assisting at golf tournaments). Occasional night and weekend work required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of related experience within the Technical Trades industry sector. Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Ability to remain adaptable and flexible to different situations and changes, including learning new systems and processes. Ability to create accurate program budgets.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field with 7 years of industry-related experience and 2 years in Program Management. Certifications in OSHA.
Salary and Benefits
Minimum starting salary is $36,900 annually ($18.92 per hour). With additional experience, pay increases to a maximum of $46,100.
