Responsibilities The Director, Environmental Services, Health System is responsible for the overall management of the Environmental Services Department. This leader must have extremely strong communication, organizational and time management skills.

Responsible for successfully coordinating and supporting all activities of the department including ultimate financial responsibility by management. Works with all levels of the facility staff in all matters relating to the cleanliness of the facility. Ensures hospital meets all Joint Commission guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

Achieve Budget/Financial Responsibilities

Controls expenses within area of responsibility.

Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget.

Evaluates and justifies supplies, equipment and purchases as needed.

Demonstrates good/effective communication skills.

Demonstrates quality leadership in meeting performance plans.

Acts as a positive role‑model, proactive in the achievement of the facility goals and objectives.

Coordinates housekeeping activities with other hospital departments.

Maintains an environment that is in sanitary, attractive and in an orderly condition.

Understands and develops the performance improvement process.

Rounds the facility to assess that expectations are being met.

Demonstrates understanding and competency in interviewing candidates for openings.

Demonstrate knowledge of EEO policy.

Demonstrates and promotes USA Health culture, values and management philosophy.

Keeps administration informed of activities, needs or concerns.

Maintains records and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes. Establishes and implements policies and procedures for departmental operations. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.

Responsible for productivity and staffing that is appropriate to the account(s).

Coaching management of hourly employees.

Develop and maintain performance appraisals for staff on a timely and accurate basis.

Ensure staff participates in required training, education, and/or self‑development.

Maintains a harassment‑free environment with good employee morale by demonstrating good employee relations practices and utilizing HR consultation when needed.

Regular and prompt attendance.

Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.

Related duties as required.

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (½ FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications A master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution, as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, and four years of experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity — OR — a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, in a related field and six years of related experience, three of which were in a managerial or supervisory capacity. Experience in environmental services in a hospital setting is highly preferred.
