Position Summary

Kent County Parks & Recreation is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Youth In Action Camp Director for our summer program tailored to middle school students in grades 5-6. This leadership role requires strong knowledge of camp program development and design, as well as exceptional communication and conflict-resolution skills. The Camp Director will oversee the camp’s daily operations, ensuring a safe and engaging experience for participants while maintaining a positive environment for both campers and staff. Prior driving experience is required for transporting campers in 12- or 15-passenger vans to scheduled activities and field trips. Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and implement a nine-week camp structure, including daily lesson plans and weekly special activities. Transport campers in 12- or 15-passenger vans to field trips and activities safely and responsibly. Coordinate field trips, clubs, special events, and presentations. Organize arts and crafts supplies and other program materials. Supervise swimming schedules and ensure adherence to safety protocols. Provide guidance, training, and evaluations for Camp Counselors. Maintain professional communication with parents, staff, and campers, addressing conflicts constructively. Ensure compliance with all camp regulations and operating standards, including those required by the Department of Health. Position Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age. Extensive experience working with middle school-aged children. Demonstrated knowledge of camp program design and management. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Availability for the full camp schedule, including orientation (mid-June to mid-August). Valid driver’s license with a clean three-year driving record. Current First Aid and CPR certification (can be obtained during orientation). Professional demeanor and character attributes befitting a public-facing position. Work Environment and Physical Demand

Occasional Lifting of up to 25 pounds, Light cleaning, Driving, and Actively engaging in indoor/outdoor recreational activities with participants.
