Director of Health Information Management, Credentialing & Privacy
for a critical access hospital in
Cloquet, Minnesota . This senior leadership role oversees Health Information Management (HIM), medical staff credentialing, and the organization’s HIPAA privacy program.
The position plays a critical role in ensuring regulatory compliance, safeguarding patient information, supporting medical staff operations, and advancing data integrity across clinical and administrative functions. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong leadership capability, and the ability to operate as a trusted advisor to physicians and executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities Health Information Management
Lead all HIM operations in compliance with federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and payer requirements
Ensure accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of medical records
Oversee EMR optimization, document management systems, transcription, dictation, and patient portal operations
Direct release of information processes and manage subpoenas and legal requests
Serve as an internal consultant on record retention, documentation standards, authorship, and authentication
Support accreditation readiness, research initiatives, and education programs
Credentialing Oversight
Direct all medical staff and allied health credentialing and re-credentialing activities
Ensure compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, rules, and regulatory requirements
Oversee provider dictionary accuracy, licensure verification, NPI validation, and OIG exclusion checks
Support timely and compliant completion of medical records by providers
HIPAA Privacy Leadership
Serve as the organization’s HIPAA Privacy Officer
Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive privacy compliance program
Investigate potential privacy incidents and oversee breach reporting as required
Ensure patient rights related to access, amendment, and restriction of PHI
Oversee business associate agreements and ongoing compliance monitoring
Partner with IT and the HIPAA Security Officer to align privacy and security initiatives
Lead organization-wide privacy training and awareness programs
Leadership & Governance
Serve on key organizational committees including Compliance, Quality, IT, and Medical Executive
Lead or coordinate HIPAA, Medical Staff, Documentation, and Process Improvement committees
Develop and manage departmental budgets, staffing, and performance management
Foster a collaborative, high-accountability culture through coaching-based leadership
Candidate Profile Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management
Strong working knowledge of healthcare regulations, HIM operations, credentialing, and HIPAA privacy
Demonstrated leadership experience in a healthcare environment
Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with physicians and executives
Highly organized with strong decision-making and prioritization skills
Preferred Experience
Prior experience serving as a HIPAA Privacy Officer
EMR and patient portal management experience
Experience supporting accreditation and regulatory surveys
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range:
$94,000 – $138,000 , based on experience
