# **Job Description**JOB SUMMARYResponsible for the direct leadership and development of the Center Store (CS) Category Managers in conjunction with indirect oversight of the procurement activities of the CS Buyers in Supply Chain. Assists and supports the Center Store VP in the development and achievement of corporate financial plan sales and profit objectives. Directs the Category Manager team to achieve these objectives through the execution of pricing strategies, assortment selection, Own Brand development, promotional planning, shelf placement strategies, and store layout merchandising. Collaborates with major supplier partners to optimize inventory cost, trade spending, and marketing support to drive customer traffic and profitable sales.The Category Director reports directly to the Vice President of Merchandising and has responsibility for the specific categories within a line(s) of business. The Category Director works closely with the team and Store Support Center teams to plan and execute merchandising strategies.# This role requires 4 days in office and 1 day remote (Tuesday & Wednesday are required in-office days). This role is also located in St Louis, Missouri.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES* Develops and implements category management and planning processes to support category/section financial goals that roll up to overall department and total CS financial plan goals. Plans and Executes the strategies that support our company strategic priority areas.* Reviews CM financial performance weekly/period and generates CM adjustments as necessary to achieve financial plan sales, profit and EBITDA expectations.* Collaborates with CM's and supplier partners in joint business planning process to generate alignment for mutual sales and profit goals. Drives supplier accountability through supplier partnerships and develops negotiation strategies to grow sales and improve profitability.* Maintains strong partnerships with Store Operations, Distribution, DNA, Accounting, Finance, Food Safety, HR, Consumer Relations, Legal, and Asset Protection to show up at our best as One Merchant Team.* Oversees CS departmental Inventory Management & TIL (Total Inventory Loss), inventory turns, and in-stock goals in stores and in the warehouses to support financial plan goals.* Personal Development of Associate Category Managers, Category Manager I and Category Manager IIMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS* Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree* Minimum Years of Experience: 5 to 8 yearsREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge* Ability to read, interpret and write financial reports* Sound understanding of Microsoft Office tools, market share reports, consumer research* Sound understanding of internally developed technology solutions (Blue Yonder Category Management Tools, Pricing, Presto/Pristine, Deals Portal, Item Maintenance, CMA tool, etc.)* Stays current with market, competitors, and consumer trends* Expertise/knowledge on major suppliers in areas of responsibilitySkills & Abilities* Analytical abilities* Computer literacy* Strong negotiations skills with ability to develop and maintain Trade Relations* Integrity, ability to maintain security of highly confidential and sensitive information* Excellent communication skillsFORMAL POLICY SETTINGMakes recommendations to managementPHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND WORK ENVIRONMENTWalking* Less than ½ DayStanding* Less than ½ DayLifting* Up to 25 lbsTravel* 26-50%Work Environment* Travel to and between stores, markets, distribution centers as well as to Domestic and International Trade Shows and Supplier Partner facilities is necessary.
