General Motors
Senior Tire Modeling and Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Engineer
General Motors, Milford, Michigan, United States
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of peopleas we aim to makedriving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role The Tire Modeling and Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Engineer leads the design and development of components and subsystems that critically impact vehicle dynamics performance and structural loads with a heavy focus on tire modeling and simulation. This role leverages advanced virtual tools and full-vehicle simulation packages to drive integration across vehicle dynamics and related disciplines.
Engineers in this group have the opportunity to specialize in technical domains such as tire modeling, control system integration, and other simulation-driven areas that influence vehicle behavior. This posting is targeted at attracting
talent specialized in the tire modeling domain
. A strong emphasis is placed on the use of automation methods such as continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) to ensure efficient, scalable, and repeatable simulation workflows.
What You’ll Do Tire Modeling & Simulation
Develop, test, roll out industry leading tire modeling techniques to drive future OE tire and virtual vehicle design, development and validation for Ride, Handling, Steering and Loads.
Virtually integrate tire models to meet ride, handling, and steering targets
Collaborate to optimize testing, modeling and implementation across GM’s virtual domains
Leverage FTire, MF-Tyre/MF-Swift and other industry leading tire fitting/modeling tools to advance our capabilities
Model Framework and Capability Development
Develop and maintain the cross-functional vehicle dynamics master model framework and co-simulation packages
Use data management tools to integrate 1D data and control systems into simulation workflows
Continuously improve the fidelity of chassis subsystems and full vehicle models
Advance virtual development by creating new load cases and collaborating with test teams to reduce reliance on hardware-based methods
Collaboration & Leadership
Work effectively across functions and cultures to build strong partnerships
Communicate, influence, and motivate teams to deliver world-class designs and integration
Mentor and coach team members, providing guidance and support
Influence without direct authority, manage ambiguity, and resolve conflicts to achieve goals
Values & Global Engagement
Promote GM values and make customer-focused decisions
Collaborate with global partners to enhance product design and simulation capabilities
Demonstrate ownership, strategic thinking, and sound decision-making
What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Math or Science or closely related field of study
5 or more years of relevant experience focused on tires in the automotive, aircraft, construction, or related industries
Experience applying computational methods to solve engineering problems
Proficient in using scripting languages such as MATLAB or Python to automate and analyze simulations
Demonstrated ability to work in teams, balancing technical theory with practical limitations
Strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrate creative and independent thinking
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
MS or PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Software, Computer Engineering closely related field of study
Familiarity with multibody and/or controls integration CAE tools such as Simpack, ADAMS, MotionView, Carsim, Carmaker, Matlab/Simulink, dSpace VEOS, Github and other similar tools.
Advanced project or thesis work in tire testing, tire modeling/simulation, and/or multi body dynamics modeling.
Practical automotive experience - Building, restoring, modifying; Performance driving schools.
Participation in automotive teams - Mini-Baja, Formula SAE, PACE, Eco-Car, etc.
