POSITION DESCRIPTION: YOUTH MINISTRY ASSOCIATE
Supervised by:
Minister with Youth and Young Adults
Prerequisites:
Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
Education and Related Experience:
Prior experience working with middle and high schoolers is preferable.
Summary: The Youth Ministry associate supports the Minister with Youth and Young Adults to direct and nurture the youth ministry, alongside a team of adult youth volunteers, so that young people are invited into a brave space where the Holy Spirit and the practices of prayer, worship, learning, and service empower them to live in compassion, peace, justice, and hope within the church and in the world.
Key Attributes of a Successful Candidate
Seeking or currently has career experience in education, ministry, or social work
Authentic faith, and a willingness to engage a wide variety of faith perspectives while remaining committed to showing the love of Christ
Able to support the mission, vision, and values of Westminster Presbyterian (PCUSA)
Strong relational and collaboration skills
Coachable & open-minded
Eager to build strong and healthy relationships with youth and adult leaders, demonstrating appropriate boundaries in all those relationships
Proficient with Google Drive and social media
Reliable communicator, in-person and online (email, phone, etc)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Support Minister with Youth in leading a thriving Sunday youth ministry
Meet for one hour weekly, in-person or remotely, for planning and collaboration
Assist with Sunday programs alongside adult volunteers – physical presence required 3 out of 4 Sundays per month, from 9am-4pm
Plan & lead a middle school summer trip
Physical presence for the duration of the trip
Coordinate communication with families leading up to the trip, with the assistance of the Minister with Youth
Coordinate schedule with other chaperones for the trip d. Gather necessary materials and supplies needed
Plan & lead 2-3 recreational youth events per year.
Recruit youth leaders & chaperones to assist
Physical presence at these special events is required
Planning can happen remotely
Present physically at youth retreats in September and January, actively coordinating activities with the Minister with Youth and Camp Henry staff.
Attend youth committee meetings monthly.
Act as a mentor and role model for young people at Westminster, adhering to the relationship guidelines and other policies of the church.
Post monthly to WPCYG Instagram, and other digital platforms as needed.
Compensation:
Paid hourly, roughly 10-15 hours per week
